450 Super Single
Anybody seen this yet. They take 450cc single dirtbikes and change out front and rear suspensions and wheels, throw some fairing an them, and track'em.

as awesome as these bikes are, just imagine how much better and cheaper they would be with two stroke engines. i mean you can do a complete overhaul on a two stroke 250 for around 200-300$. which is nothing, ******* tree huggers

The 4 strokes arent the end of the damn world. I'm watching this closely - if its approved for WERA then I'm going to build one

your 28, so im guessing your alot more stable than me financial wise. maybe you can afford to rebuild those 4 stroke engines every couple of races, but for a college student or younger people (which this bike is intended for) thats considred big money. im not being a lil whiny bitch now, im still greatfull that there are people out there thinking of broke wanna be racers (me) that can get their foot wet with a series like this.
just look at spain and italy, the only reason they have so many great riders is because of their 125, 250 series. none of those riders jumped on a 600cc bike right away.

Well, if you have the drive then you can race as a college student. The expected build cost of one of the 450's was placed at around $10k for a competitive bike - if they can run as an AMA support series, that is cheap cheap cheap. If you want cheap racing then buy a EX500 or SV650 and race those, it can be done on a budget. If you wanted to race a 450, then no reason you couldnt get a season on an engine, IMO as long as you arent pushing for max HP.

Who won the last two GP championships? An australian and an american, both with dirt track backgrounds
A 125/250 GP bike is not low maintenance either - for their size they make big power and the component lifespan is very, very short. Push the envelope, rebuilds are more frequent and you run a higher budget - it doesnt matter whether its a 2-smoker or a thumper

Ah, the logical fallacies of restricting the rules in the name of reduced costs.
Unfortunately, it never works. I hope its fun for at least the first few years.

You're referring to the thousand prostitutes yes?
If you were talking about the bike, I didn't read the link but I think you start with a 450cc dirtbike of your choice.

Are you racing something now? There are plenty of budget friendly places to race with wera/ccs/etc.... and none of them involved starting with a 450cc dirt bike.

Yamaha had one of these at the Cycle World International Motorcycle show this past weekend in Long Beach. Definitely cool to see. Going to post up a picture soon.
