Default inspection????

well i did a gsr swap a while back and its time for a sticker... im trying to get hooked up with one but a buddy of mine with a swap told me that you can just take it to a normal shop and they will do it if there is no check engine light and emissions run fine...

my check engine light IS on due to my open circuit engine vs my closed circuit ecu...

and with emissions.. im running a test pipe, will that throw my emmisions test too???

is their anyway to cheat either or?? or just get hooked up with a sticker??

obd2 car obd1 engine

Don't know about down in TX, but up here in NY 96 and newer needs to be plugged into a computer which makes a call to DMV. DMV then issues the inspection sticker. No more slappin a sticker on it when the check engine light is on. That means big problems for people like you with OBD1 system in an OBD2 vehicle. Won't pass up here. I know it has nothing to do with TX, but just my way of calmly venting. Good old NY

Yeah, I used to buy my inspection stickers wholesale for 15 bucks a pop, then we got boned with that '96+ inspection bullshit. It's impossible to swap an OBD-I engine in our '96+ cars now unless you're running knock wiring and such with an OBD-II ECU. We can't have any CEL's, but we also can't have more than 2 I/M monitors not showing "ready" meaning we can't just yank the neg. cable on the battery for 5 minutes before inspection. It's total bullshit.

We got raped hardcore on that deal, it's almost impossible to upgrade '96+ cars now, it's almost/as hard as Cali with their emissions crap on a '96+ car here. They just implemented it like 3 years ago.

There's only one way me and my friend found around that, and that's we ran a stock CX civic ('96-'00) next to his '99 DX (OBD-I GSR, tuned on Hondata, OBD-I ECU). We just plugged the computer into the CX civic (the computer data is basically the same, the computer in Albany doesn't read base maps or sensor checks, just scans it like an OBD-II scanner would), and when it said "plug wire into OBD-II port" we just pressed okay with it plugged into the CX, but we used the VIN off his DX. It was a trick and a half and illegal as hell. If caught (Somebody here on H-T told me about a guy who got caught cheating NYS inspection) you face 20k fine + losing your inspection permit. We dont' have emissions per-se, but the no CEL crap makes up for that.

It's bullshit.

@ OP:
Sorry, I have no idea .

Carefull.... DMV knows the VIN by pluging it in. Thats crazy to even try.

And I knew someone from Cali when I went to college for auto tech. She said Cali is WAY easier to pass then it is here. Here you need inspection every year. I think I remember her saying there is a huge gap between inspections there, atleast for smog. Someone from cali correct me if i'm wrong. She hates it here as far as inspections go. That's sad.
