i want to change the manual tranny fluid in my 94 lx. Just want to know how many quarts do i need and were will i have to pour it in from? i remember in my civic i had to pour it through the speed sensor.

Ah I'll be nice.

There's two bolts that you use a rachet extension to get to on the tranny.

One is below the intake (it's barely visible from the top, you can undo the bolt from the bottom - this is on the left side of the tranny, it's about the size of a quarter.

That's the fill bolt.

The drain bolt looks almost the exact same and is at the very bottom of the transmission.

What I did is used a funnel with a tube on it and dropped it down through the engine bay to the fill bolt after draining it.

 

ahh so i have to fill it through tth fill plug? there isnt any easier way? ill have to find something flexible for that job.
how many quarts? 2? im thinking about using HG manual tranny fluid.

 

I believe it's 4 quarts.

And you don't HAVE to fill it through there, but that's where you measure the fluid level (if you stick your finger in you should just barely feel the fluid, it's supposed to come up to the threads.

I just used one of the clear webbed hoses duct taped to a funnel.

And I'd recommend the Honda MTF. You'll want to drain and refill about 3 times to get a full change.

 

3x why so much? isnt that for automatic transmissions?

Nope, 5 spds as well, it just makes sure you get all the gunk outta there.

Well, I don't think you NEED to change it thrice, but if you really want to flush it out... Good news is it only takes 2 quarts, and I will also recomed Honda genuine MTF, it just works better...

on second though if the tranny fluid has never or rarely been changed, DO flush it out. but if you keep to the recomended change schedule, I think once is good. (my .02)

You "can" also add the fluid with a small funnel through the top of the tranny's vent tube. It has a little rubber cap on it. But you are still going to have to take the fill bolt out so you will know the tranny is full when it starts draining out down there.

Remember to use a jack AND a safety brace.

not to sure about the 94's but i know on my 1990 accord dx, the drain bolt is on the passenger side right aside of the oil pan. i think you use a 3/8 socket to open it.

and i fill it up right where the tranny oil gauge is

 

2 qts. nice i was thinking that since thats how much my civic took.
ill be going get the fluids tomm at honda and will do it tomm aswell.
ill let you guys know if ill have trouble but i doubt i will.

That was my total usage from drain and refill (mine had come out looking and smelling horrible)

If it looks bad, thats one thing(like with bits of shiny metal), but manual transmission fluid will usually have a bad smell from the anti wear additives. (gear oil is much more potent in smell though)
