flooded hatch
just wondering what your guy's thoughts would be on buying a hatch that was in a flood...the water got about up to the dash...its a 96 but alls i really want it the motor and tranny...he is asking 1 grand but i offered him 500...it will come with a set of rims as well....the motor that is in it is a h22....what all would i have to do to get the motor to run if water got in it? pretty much a rebuild?thanks guys....
If the car is in really good shape strip it down to bare nothing, redo all the electrical, rebuild the motor if it doesnt pass and flush the tranny just to make sure. Stay low in price so you end up having more money in the end to do what you want.
what happened was that the car was having body work done and then the shop got flooded along with the whole town...it sat for a few days i guess and he never tried to start it...but when you pull the dip stick it is all white...i thought about just taking the whole thing apart and then putting all new seals and what not in it...then i was just going to swap it into my ej8...since its the same chassi...il keep the rota's and keep the hasport mounts...the interior has nothing really going for it...i could always just sell the shell or use it for a parts car...the frame rails are bent on the front as well i forgot to mention...which is why i just want the motor...i figure if i can get it to run its worth 500 bucks...the motor came from hmotors online i guess...he has paperwork for it as well...but im worried about the ecu and all the electrical stuff
I'd steer clear.
The only way I'd even think about it is if I'm looking for a clean shell to totally strip down and build a car from the ground up and this one happens to fit said criteria.
This one is flood damaged AND has been in a collision. It doesn't even sound like a good parts car.
I've found wrecked clean titled cars for much cheaper. Keep searching.

You don't have to rebuild the engine as long as its not rusty under the valve cover pull the valve cover off pull the oil pan drain the tranny you want to make sure you get all the water out. Letting it sit for a couple days is not a bad ideal. Fill the car up with oil completely turn it over by hand drain and put fresh oil back in it and start here up. I bought a flood car at 140k and I now over 250k and still running strong
