crank bolt..

Re: crank bolt.. (King V)
Compressors dont take off the bolts, the gun does. If you have a shitty gun no compressor will take off a bolt. When you dont have a good gun the breaker bar trick works best.

On my H22A it took heating it up with a torch and using an impact. I broke three breaker bars and just an impact doesnt do enough. Hopefully yours isnt this big of a pain in the ***. Good luck.

one thing that seems to get crank bolts loose everytime: hit it hard with the impact. when that doesn't work soak it with some penetrant and tap it a few times with a hammer on the end of the bolt. go get lunch, or watch your favorite episode of Family Guy... then come back and hit it with the impact and it should come off.
also remember that both the impact and the compressor matter. if the comp. has tons of flow but the gun is crap or weak then it won't get the bolt loose. in the other way, if it's a 1" impact with two handles because it weighs 30lbs and shears axle shafts but it's hooked to a 2 gallon pancake compressor then it won't do it. gotta have both.

Re: crank bolt.. (hondamark35)
A tech from a honda gave me that tool that holds the pully while you put the socket on. I've reefed on it a little but i think i need more room.. or a bigger breaker bar. am i going to need to take my bumper off?

You shouldn't have to. I just took off a crank bolt last night and I used a breaker bar with a long pipe on it.

HERE IS THE TRICK TO AIR GUNS
****************************
1.) They Need Air Pressure.. and NO 80 PSI is NOT going to do it.
Pump your compressor as high as it will go. (My tank is rated for 150, so i have adjusted my compessor to pump to 140, it used to shut off at 130)
Also make sure that your regularator is WIDE OPEN to allow all that pressure to the hose.
2.) When you use the gun... use it in short repatative blasts... don't hold the trigger for a long period of time.... hit it for 1 second, release for .5 seconds and hit it again.... repeat until the bolt comes loose

Re: crank bolt.. (egstockboosted)
i'm familiar with this tool. does yours have the long handle on it or is it just the "head"?
the expectation with using this tool is that the car is in the air on a lift. when i use it i have the car up in the air, and a 3ft breaker bar on the bolt. i brace the special tool against the suspension/axle shaft (which ever it touches first) and take a ninja stance... then i ****** the breaker bar while taking a step backward. see how it's handy to have the car on a lift.
in your case, yeah i would think taking the bumper off and putting a breaker that sits with the end about a foot off of the ground when it's on the bolt and the special tool braced against something sturdy like the subframe or suspension. put your foot on the breaker bar and give it everything you've got. try stepping up from the bar not jumping down onto it if you know what i mean. you want to keep a small amount of constant pressure on the bar to keep it from going sideways and damaging the bolt or socket.

Re: crank bolt.. (egstockboosted)
screw driver through the flywheel, breaker bar, 6 ft pipe...........one guy holding the breaker bar steady and one guy at the end pulling, thats the only thing that worked for me. I spent two days using 3 different compressors and 3 guns that i borrowed from a local shop, torched the bitch, broke a ratchet, shattered a socket piece(only use impact sockets) and pb blasted, all of which did nothing.

Re: crank bolt.. (rivaladore)
i cant believe how much of a pain in the *** they are to get off sometimes i wonder how that is. But when you dont want them to come off theres no problem. One time I was racin some dude and i saw sparks comeing up from underneth my hood onto my windsheild then a big bang and i see my crank pully rolling past me on the road LOL

Re: crank bolt.. (h-duced)
hey i finally got it with that special tool, a two foot breaker bar, and me and my co worker using our plumbing arms to get it off
it was not easy at all but i reccomend everyone buy that tool, the one with the 2 foot handle too if your going to try to get that crank bolt off

this is exactly what i do! turn up the pressure on your compressor

Fitting the handle to the pulley holder in there is tough without a lift but not always impossible. With my EM1 I just put it up on jack stands as high as they would go, fitted just the head of the tool on the pulley, and then attached the handle.
