Default My final pre-DC5 ownership question!

Ok, sorry in advance about the whole multiple posts and such, i know thats annoying but this place is where i get the majority of my honda/acura info and feedback so I trust most of you guys.

My plans here... 2002 RSX-S, 50k miles. He is asking 10,900. The car KBBs private seller at $13k.

The car has about a golfball size ding on the driver fender, no big deal. I'm going to drive it and get a feel for the clutch. Aside from this, is the car worth $10k? (thats the most im going to give him for it anyways). I'm a fairly honest guy and if the car blue books for 13k and he takes 10 I will feel ok but I'm not going to try to chew him down lower. Unless for some reason the car really isnt worth 10.

Only way to tell is drive it and listen to everything. Also is it modified cosmeticly and engine wise?

No external mods to see, the guy seems pretty 'import ignorant' and doesnt think the engine is modded. I will be checking that all out when I go look at it hopefully tonight.

10k seems kind of lowball since he already took more than 2gs of the bbvalue

some people will play stupid so be careful.

eazybmx:
10k is not lowballing if he has modifications done to the car. There is actually no such thing as low balling. That's only a term for people who want a certain amount of money and people don't offer that price. It all comes down to who is paying for what. If he can get it for 10k hey more power to him. I don't think you'd be paying his car payment. the value of the car goes down when modifications are done to the car. If you could get your car or anything at a lower price would you complain?

no that is lowballing. Offering 10.5 would sound semi fair. When I sell a car and someone offers me far less than what the car is worth i kindly say please do not call back and hang up. I know I am not the only person that does it too. If he was at 15k and the bb is 13k and you walk in with resources to back yourself up then no you are not low balling, but offering below an already slashed price is idiotic.

You can be a cheap *** and take the risk that the guy gets pissed at you and then decides he will only take the list price.

The fact is that this car is question is worth more than 10.9k and you saying you dont think it is worth more than 10k is idiotic.

i don't think i ever said the car was worth 10k first of all.

If it had mods done to it cosmeticly or on the engine regardless what you think the car is not worth nada or kbb. Car is depreciated in value due to modifications, it's just how it works. Offering below a slashed price is called negotiations. the world is built on it and you can't say if you were to get something at a lower price you would turn it down and tell them, "i know it's worth more i'll pay you what it's worth". seriously be realistic here. Negotiation is part of every day life. If i can negotiate someone into selling something for half the price.. i'm gonna damn well do it. Less money i have to spend is more money in my pocket book. Big business do it all the time. It's not idiotic it's negotiation.

Remember nada and KBB is FACTORY price in excellent condition. Those are only rough ideas of what the car is worth not actual price. Dealerships don't even go off of KBB. There is no such thing as fair in life.

Offer $10,500. If he says no, pay the $10,900 and be happy. You got a hell of a deal.

Offer what you want to offer then go from there.

You guys seriously can't tell me none of you know how to negotiate.

I don't know the situation well enough to tell him what to say (owner's personality/age/situation/reason for selling, is the car stock, etc).

But to answer the OP's original question, the car is worth a lot more than $10k. Hell, I paid $100 less for my EP than the asking price of this RSX-S after negotiating the price down $2200.

Saw the car, loved it. The clutch/throttle is WAY different than the Si (i know DBW sucks) but i told him 10 was my limit and if he wanted to sell it i could bring him the money tomorrow (which is today) and he said he would let me know. He called me in 2 hours and said ok deal.

So tonight I will officially be a DC5 member. Thanks guys!

Oh yeah and this car is bone stock, motor looks like its fresh off the dealer lot.

Do a quick leakdown or compression test to really determine the health of the motor. That's what I would do before I would buy any used car.

10k seems awful cheap for a rsx-s with 50,000 miles. Is it a salvaged or rebuilt title?

why would it be to low? If it has a clean title and he bargained the guy down to 10k then there's nothing wrong with that.

I'm not too worried about it being perfect, or even if it has been in an accident. It is and will always be my 'beater'. Its nice now but i will keep this car well into its 200k mile range if it will take the beatings. I plan on getting another new car in a couple years so. This is my gas saver/fun to drive car.
