Losing Gas Mileage
Ok guys I have a 97 LX and I am losing gas mileage. From 36 mpg in August to around 29 mpg this past weekend. I am measuring it on the interstate making the trip from Paducah, KY to Lexington, KY. My tires are all at the same pressure, so whats you guys opinions as to why the decline?
Have you cleaned the air filter and tuned it lately.Do you use gas with 10% ethanol
mix.this alone will reduce gas mileage. If using ethanol mix it is recomended that you set the plug gap.010 less than factory spec. With a min of .035, do not go less than this. Are you useing the correct weight oil for your car.The 02 sensor will also
affect the fuel mix and fuel economy.Maybe someone will chime in with some other suggestions.Mark

It is an accord, and my first trip to Lexington in August i got 257 miles on exactly half of a tank. My tank holds 14.1 gallons I'm almost positive so that comes out to be about 36 mpg.

The fuel guage is only an approximation and way too vague to quantify a fuel economy mesurement.
Fuel economy is expressed in Miles per Gallon. How many miles were driven and how many gallons of fuel were used. This requires you start with a full tank. After your trips, refill the tank and divide the miles by the number of gallons. Any other supposition or estimate of mileage is pure speculation and a waste of time, yours and ours.
