Default Slip Fit joints

Are there other ways to expand pipe for slip fit joints other than using an expander?

I was thinking about making a die and seeing if i could press it into one end of the pipe which would expand it and then pressing it out again, i geuss i would have to this before i cut the piping to form the collector.

What do you think?

Pipe expanders are not very expensive. Why bother making something that won't work as well, and still pay the cost of materials?

Materials would be free, and to be honest i think the end product would come out a bit nicer than using something like this:

Harbor Freight pipe expanders aren't worth their weight in pennies.

Thats what i thought

Is doesnt seem worth spending out on one that will do the job for the 6 joints i need to do.

Do you think it would work if i turned down a piece of round bar to the OD of the pipe im using and then pressed it in?

If you only need a couple pipes done, what about driving to an exhaust shop and slipping the guy 10 bucks to do it?

Not an option. The tools that do slip fit exhausts are quite expensive. I remember DanielM3(mazzuri bend guy) bought one and it was $500+ and still had issues with doing 16 gauge SS.

The cost effective and easiest way to do things is go to a muffler shop or buy the expanded pieces from pepboys/autozone.

I dont quite see your point? You have just told me that its not an option to go to an exhaust shop and then recomended that i go to an exhaust shop.......

There is a muffler shop close to me that would do it for me but as said before i would like to do it myself

Doing it yourself and being cost effective is not an option. Go find a machine that does the job. Find out how much it will cost. Then figure out how many times you would have to use it to make it worth while. I bet going to the local muffler shop and spending $5 a joint will be the best option.

Dude i've not mentioned once that i'm going to go out and spend mega money on an expander. The only expander i have referred to is a $20 one from harbour freight?

I am talking about machining a bit of stainless to make a die that i can press into pipe to expand it which will form my slip fit joint.
