h22 vtec controller or chipped ECU?
i have a 96 Lude w/ jdm h22a (obd1) with a p13 Mugen chipped ECU. vtec hits at 5500 redline at 9500. im not quite sure i understand..... with this set up what is the benifet of a vtec controller?.
oh and do you need to adjust the timing with any or all of these upgrades??? bored fuel rail, performance FPR and fuel pump, 440cc injectors, skunk2 intake and TB,
and how do you adjust the timing with a rebuilt head or stage 2 cams?
thanks for the help i have been playing with these questions in my head for quite some time now!!!

well vtec usually hit at 5500 i dont know what that mugen chip is giving you....and are u making any power to 9500? and to adjust timing u need adj cam gears
i dont know about the power... i havent installed the ecu yet. i just put the chip in the ECU today. and my vtec did kick in at 5500 already. from what i understand the chip is designed to increase the amount of fuel on hard acceleration and disable the speed governor and modifies the timing curve to increase HP throughout the power band.

it is completely useless for you to have your rev limiter set at 9500 rpm's. if your head is stock its doubtful that youre even making power past 74 or 7500 rpms.
to control ur air/fuel and vtec, if ur going to put one on take it to get tuned, vtec controller isnt that good, i have one laying around but not installed, it sends a different map to ur ecu and trying to fool it, and when it does it, ur vtec might not be smooth, when i had my installed vafc II i didnt tune it or anything and it was worse then stock. i was cheap on getting a tune
so i took it off
so i took it off
i agree that is why i was asking about the timing with a new head. i am about to purchase a fully moded head from DH-Racing. and i am just checking out my options.

have you heard of that b4? my father put the chip in. he is a pro-audio tech (fixes mix boards and stuff. and is very good at soldering. i hope it is ok... has anyone put one of these chips in b4? is it even useful?
is it a chip from ebay, if yes good luck, my brother in law put one of thouse in and i dont know if it was his soldering i took a look at it recently cuz i found an ecu and im like oh p13 and his like oh its mest up and i opened it and saw that chip it was spoon or mugen dont remember and he said his check engine light got on when he installed it and his car ran like crap and vtec wasnt even kicking in, so he had to buy another p13

why?
"chipped" ecu's are ridiculous and a waste of money.
chipped ecu's + tuning is key.
why buy a chipped ecu and a controller? You buy a chipped ecu in order to use programs like Crome, Neptune, ectune.....not vtec controllers.

Chipped acu give u more air fuel, and takes out the speed govner those are the main reasons why I got mine. And the vtec controller is a monster I crank my vtec down to what I need to set at for most power and accelleration.
how do you know what the map is doing? how do you now you need more fuel?
the map that is given to you is just a guess. You have no clue of what is actually on there.
example:
a few days ago, i tuned a h22 civic with crome. I used the map that i had fully tuned on my stock motor. his motor was "stock" as well. My map ran 10.9 afr in vtec and 12.1 afr on the low cam. I had to take out alot of fuel in order to meet the correct AFR.
i am a "tuner", dont try and pull the it gives more fuel crap and expect me to think everything is peachy.
tune your ecu or put the stock one back in.

mugen chip is a fake.. mugen never made a chip for the h22.
you need to get a proper tune chipped ecu or you going to mess up your motor with just a random untune chipped.
i suggest getting crome(it free program) and get it tune. you car could be running rich or lean right now with it untune and running on some random chip.
