Default Pretty sure my headgasket is toast

yea i was given a d15b6/7 whatever is in a 93 dx hatch for free. told hte motor ran but smoked a lil bit, most likely because it had 147k on it. Well i swapped it into my crx and started it up and it idles fine and stuff but the thing burns more coolant than gas. im talking like sitting there idling with the coolant 100% full itll kill about half of the coolant in 15 minutes with a giant cloud of smoke out of the tail pipe. It doesnt leak anything anwywhere, it just smokes a ton out of the exhaust, and wont rev at all. It will rev to 4000 rpm very slowly and when hte car is moving the thing is gutless. It isnt like its hitting a rev limiter at 4k either the car takes like 10 seconds to rev from idle to 4k and then gets to 4k and acts like it physically cant rev any faster, it doesnt bounce on a limiter or anything.

well im swapping in another d15b2 i got but im pretty sure this one the hg is toast. oh btw the set up is a 93 dx motor, y8 intake mani swap, a6 distributar, crx si tranny with an LSD, stock exhaust, short ram intake, ported LS throttle body, all in 91 CRX SI

Spend a little more money and get a d series that isn't blown up.

Or replace the headgasket and get the head machined. Probably cost you around 150$ for everything and takes like 3 hours to do. You don't need to pull the cam off the head to pull the head like in any DOHC honda engine. Just remove the timing belt, the valve cover and the 10 headbolts and shes pretty much ready to come off.

Actually, you can probably get a good running D15 for LESS than the cost of replacing the head gasket.

As for the job of replacing the gasket, I fear this job for one reason: having to scrape the old gasket from the block surface. This can be damn near impossible to do without seriously marring the gasket surface, which is fairly soft aluminum. But if you can actually pull this off, do yourself a favor and put the motor back together with a metal head gasket from a 1992-1995 EX. That way, you will never have to worry about scraping again.
