ok so im going to start my 50 dollar paint job but i just wanted to make sure if im got the right list of things im going to get so this is what im going to get if im missing something please let me know before i go to the store.
1. 1 can of primer
2. rustoleum paint 1 gallon
3. thinner- mineral spirits
4. high density rollers
5. tray
6.tape blue
7.sanding block
8.sand paper 320,600,800,1500,1000,2000
am i missing anyhting

 

depends on the condition that the clear is in...... Some times with our hondas youll find the clear like to flake of if so you need to remove all clear and it will take 150 grit to get it off unless you want to be there for a while other than that looks good.. Im still in prep have been for two weeks post pics when you can ill do the same....What color?

 

it is going to be gloss black. I already had taken off the clear before a long time ago when i though i was going to take it to get painted but didnt have no money so i ended up spray painting it flat black with cans. So all i have to remove is the spray paint, and im doing that with a 320 ill post pics later.

 

i thought you didnt need a primer cuz the rustoleum is everything in one??

 

i used the primer on spots where u can see some bondo and some metal spots

 

everytime i primer a spot i have to sand down that spot right and with what sandpaper

 

320 will do just fine

 

this is what i have done so far just started yesterday, i sanded down my whole roof and primed it allbecause off alot of metal spots showing then i moved on to my hood and its taking forever i think i need to move on to an electric rotating sander. Still need to sand down prime on roof

ok so i got home form work and started to work on car first i did the roof.I sanded down the primer till it was smooth then i cleaned it off with some mineral spirits. Then i prepared my paint and stirred, hope i mixed it right, i put like half and half well a little bit less of paint then i put my first coat. These are the pics of the first cost without sanding yet paint is still fresh. I also got alot of little dots and orange peel could it be maybe because i didnt sand it down yet. And i sand down after second coat right with 320.

 

looks like you put it on a little to thick for a first coat

 

yeah i think it looks like that because the paint was still fresh, i had just put it on . But right now it doesnt look like that anymore. Now im going to put my second coat on.

 

just a tip for this proccess the thinner you put on the better! I was looking at the picture of your hood I have seen this a few times and for some reason it keeps catching my eye did how coarse did you go when blocking it looks like there are some serious dips in the sand job which will be a pain in the *** to get out! also why is the hood so muddy murky looking ? just curious bro

 

what do yo mean by muddy and murky, because of the water sanding or something else

 

just wondering what that mess on your hood is it looks blotchy just wondering why it was so messy mine didnt look like that.

ok so i think i finished it i only put five coats i dont think i needed that many because my car was already black. It does kinda have a gloss to it but at the same time it looks dull i think its myabe because i havent sanded it down with the 1500 and 2000 and polished yet but heres a pic of the hood ill try to take more of the side of the car later

ok so i barely got home from work and went outside and took some pics i know they might look kinda dark but ill try and take some in daylight when i have some time. In these pics i still havent done the final wetsanding with 1500 and 2000 or the buffing still giving the paint some time to cure,dry.

when you painted

 

yeah it was freezing i had to wait like a day everytime i painted a coat because it would take forever to dry.
