Next Generation NSX?
alright well we've all heard roumers about a 450hp+v8 (oh god i hope they make this) ferrari killer, but anyone know whats the deal with this? when is the next generation nsx gonna be produced and at what auto show will it be seen first? anyone know, well, anything about this car? i am not sure if i am up for a next gen body style, the 2002 is perfect. 290hp is more then enough for me, but i think it needs a little more power to shut up those domestic z06 lovers.
AWD & the "big" V8 would rock. Too bad they're so heavy. You'd think they'd be a LOT lighter with an all aluminum frame. NSX's are beautiful, beautiful cars. Lots of em here in Encinitas SoCal
None of the rumors are reliable, and many of them conflict with each other. V-8? V-6? Hybrid? 350 hp? 400 hp? 450+ hp? More expensive than the current one? Less expensive? Aluminum body? Steel? You name it, there's been a rumor claiming it to be true.
Don't believe anything unless it comes as an official statement from Honda. And the only official statement Honda has made is that the refreshed NSX would be produced for 2002 and 2003, and that a replacement is expected some time after that.

If Honda would tune the current engine to 100-120hp/liter like all of their other performance cars, there really wouldn't be a problem, imo...

The discussion that I've heard from folks is that it will be a 3.6L v6 putting out around 350 hp. 360 would give them a nice 100 hp/L marketing message, so that could happen in the end. The same motor would be used in the 3.6RL (or perhaps named Legend) revamp of the 3.5RL line, but detuned to the likes of 300 hp.
And I'm guessing, although I've also heard other conjecture, that it will be more targetted at the burgeoning 350Z, Supra, Rx-7 marketplace as Honda has never historically competed in that market.
You can't continue a 100 car-per-year in the US program forever and not have your shareholders crying foul.
