Piston slap - Seafoam??
Original owner 1992 LX 5-speed. Started making a light knock under load when cold at about 150,000 miles, I am now at 330,000+. Knocking runs up to about 2,000 RPMs then lessens, goes away when warmed up, no unusual oil consumption. Sounds deeply internal and distinct (as in one cylinder), not at all like light-steady sewing machine clatter from valvetrain. I have been reading up on gummed up piston rings and wonder if this could be the cause. It is more of an annoyance than anything, if it has not caused a problem in 180,000 miles, or worsened, I doubt it will be the death of this engine. I am wondering if a dose of Seafoam might not clean up the piston rings allowing them to expand when the piston cools. Thoughts?? Also, can anyone with a real head for engineering offer insight on rod offset having a bearing on the low RPM nature of the problem. As engine speed increases is the piston less likely to "rock" under compression? Thanks as always.
ur car is at 330,xxx OG miles
you should be happy it went that far!
I also want to know more about this seafoam.......
is it safe on the older 90-93 accords?

Thanks all, I suppose I shouldn't fix it if it really isn't broken. Not worth the risk of causing leaks. radiuslight I am thrilled with this car, it has exceeded my every expectation and I still enjoy driving it, even with owning an S2000 for comparison. Happy and safe holidays.
I had a 92 289k with the same problem... seafoamed it and the stuff ate every seal and within a month the plugs were soaked in oil... I'm a FIRM believer in seafoam and use it on my other accords but I would never do it on a car with that high a miles again.

Just wanted to quote this. I agree 100%.
