Default Charcoal Canister

OK, I got a question for all you Road Race guys. Charcoal canister, is there any benefit of removing it for racing? Is the only benefit a cleaner engine bay? I know it has an environmental purpose for taking care of hydrocarbons from becoming exposed into our atmosphere. Feedback much appreciated. Thanks!
