VIN-less b18c5?
saw a kid at a shop who was supposed to get his car smogged.
had no vin'z on it---they were scratched off?
now, how does this guy pass smog (say if he gets the ref, and must do it legally?)
or do they jus automatically say/state that the motor is stolen/cant be identified?

Maybe it was a crate engine? For example the Spoon engines come from Honda to them without a VIN because they are not going in to a car on the HONDA assembly line. If you buy a replacement engine from your HONDA/ACURA dealer does it come with a VIN? If the VIN was visibly scratched out then I would say there is probably something wrong.

Do they check the vin's in cali? I mean on the motor. I went last month here in AZ and they did not check for the vin on the motor. I was a little worried because it's a JDM B20 so It has no vin.

They only run vin numbers at smog when they dont match your car, and thats even if the smog tech remembers to check.
At a few test/tune nights at Sears Point a few years back, the task force showed up and ran vins on chassis, motors etc. They ended up impounding 15-20 cars. Not for smog stuff mind you, but people with either stolen shells or motors.

Now I remember why I don't go down there...sooooo many morons.
Oh well, my own fault I guess..
That sucks...
They made me pop my hood..
Conversation follows:
Cop: So, um, it's all stock except for the exhaust, right?
Me: Uh, yeeaah, stock....riiiight. Everything is stock
Closed the hood and drove home.
They were cool...I just feel sorry for the kids that acted like a-holes.
I'd have no mercy, tow their car and make them walk home.

I've heard it's not possible...like they check the block numbers and junk. And seeing that it's a JDM motor, it won't register.
But this is all hear-say. I'd pm Joe. He's got his motor carbed..he could give you some good insight.

I think officers ask you if your exaust is stock by default... I got pulled over and an officer was askign bout my exaust.. while looking at the intake manifold which was funny.. then he walked aroudn and asked if the exaust was stock.. he asked 3 times.. eveytime.. he was liek are u sure it's stock.. cus I guess he dind;t realize the ITR one is different.. then I had another officer say I repainted the car. lol
