Default header getting beat red at idle for 30 secs

my first thought was that the motor was running to lean. within 30 secs of idle the header gets beat red, pulled the plugs and they are black.. i just put the motor back in. when i took it out it ran perfect put it back in with same setup same map and all, timed the ignition checked the injectors, stock fuel rail stock injectors stock fpr... it looks like there is coolant coming out of my exhaust.. first thought is headgasgit but the motor was never dissasembled.. only has 2k miles on it and was perfect when removed.. any thoughts?

Plugged cat possibly?(if you have one). Nowhere for the heat to go?

did you remove timing belt? if the cam and ignition timing are too retarded, it can cause your egt to be that hot

red manys are can be cause by retarded timing, valves not fully close or bent and of course to lean or rich.... a cloged cat can do it also

are all the manys glowing?? if so its fuel related then if not do a leak down test on that cyl to check valves.

its in all 4 ports. otherwise i would think it was just a leaky gasgit... i think its running to rich and burning fuel in the header but its stock map stock injectors and stock rail, fpr... im stuck..

i doubt it is rich.. extra air is what causes unburned exhaust gasses to burn.. more fuel will just make the unburned exhaust gas too rich to ignite.

When you say the plugs are black, is it carbon buildup? and do the electrodes melt down right away?

DOUBLE check all the rest of the plug-ins, make POSITIVE that everything is plugged back in.

If you have a wideband, or a friend with one, you can get an idea if it is a fuel problem.. even a narrowband would probably tell you, if its running lean enough to cherry the mani

Extra rich does make it red, The extra fuel burns tru the cycle and burns upon exit tru the valves burning up in the mani. This is also why retarded timing gets it red.

no, the reason retarded timing causes red mani, is that the fuel is still burning from the power stroke

extra fuel does NOTHING without enough air to ignite!!!!

plugs are all charcoal black
and timing is dead on... only thing i can think of is to much fuel.. but how?
do you think by having a tb bigger than stock would do it? i hear about ppl putting them on stock setups

head gasket is good, compression levels are all perfect. stock tb put back on. engine is still ****** up.

a long shot but check the vacuum lines, check for clogs or open vacuum

If you have coolant coming it, it's either from a cracked head, or more likely, the intake manifold gasket.
Get a coolant system pressure tester, build up about 15psi in the cooling system, and you should find your leak.

the leak is from the im gasket. it was torn,... i still cant find out whats wrong with the motor lol. there are only so many things it could be.. maybe my ecu went bad and it has no map.. ill try another one

FIX the gasket. It is letting extra air into the engine, causing it to run too LEAN, causing EGT's high enough to cherry the mani.

Don't bother posting any more questions about the red mani until you have at least changed the IM gasket. Since we KNOW there is a problem with that, FIX IT. It's called troubleshooting. Trying to think of what else could cause the problem is a total waste of time when the IM gasket makes sense to cause both of your problems!

ok, fixed the intake gasget, no more antifreeze in the exhaust. header ran hot because the chip in the ecu went bad somehow so that problem is gone, now the idle fluctuates and the abs light comes on, checked the code for it and it ways the o2 sensor was bad, pulled it and it was bad, replaced it and reset the codes and its saying my new one is bad, plugs are still completely black and under load the car feels like its choaking itself and throws me foreward and catches again and lurches me back... how the hell is it still running rich.. and what is wrong with it.. reset the tps sensor and the map is good...
