Default Overheating, dammit

Problem: My 636 is overheating and the fan won't come on.

Backround: A week or so ago we were going to have freezing temps and all I had in the bike was water, so I decided to drain it as a precaution in the event it could have frozen. I didn't have any anti-freeze to put in it at the time, and it was very last minute so I couldn't go out and get any in time. The head of the drain plug screw for the water pump was rounded so I just pulled off the hose that goes from the pump to the radiator.

Fast forward a week or so and I have some anti-freeze to put in the bike, but the reservoir says it still has plenty.... I take it around the block to see if it had to cycle through what was left in the reservoir, and the temps skyrocket. When I pull back in the fan isn't running either. Not good.

Thoughts, suggestions, questions, comments, concerns?

you have air trapped in the system.
air/steam doesnt trigger sensor to allow fan to operate.
you dont refill the system at the reservoir tank.
add at the radiator cap like everything else and burp/bleed system as instructed in the manual.

I bet your fan motor took a ****.
After every oil change I let me bike warm up to 220 to verify that the fan works.
Big bumps can cause it to go bad.

That dawned on me as soon as I got in the car to head to Thanksgiving dinner, I feel like such an idiot.

.RJ, if I could ride it for more than a 1/4 mile to work on it I would . I think I'll give it a shot tomorrow afternoon at my place, if you're up for helping I can always use an extra set of eyes and hands. I'm quite good at taking off the plastics now, haha. Have to get it nice and pretty to try and sell
