Actually we do the ones that dont are the r18's.

A Corolla XRS with some work done will be pretty damn competitive with an Si in a straight line, i'm pretty sure. They have 170 hp/127 tq stock with a 6 speed manual and weigh a little under 100 lbs less than the Si. While not as popular a platform, there are modifications that can be made that will put the XRS on par with an Si in a drag race. A road course however, and I bet the Corolla will get lapped.
i know the si's have the amber headlight ring. thats why i put "si" in quotes. because he claimed it was an si when it was obviously it was just an r18, because it didnt have the amber rings. and...the subtitle on the video said it was a stock xrs...no competition stock. sorry i dont have a link. i cant find it now. i know i was searching to see if there were any 2008 si videos out yet, since i am getting my '08 si this week
btw...the r18 hung with him pretty good for a car with 30 less hp...be proud boys

Well, the clip is pitch black and only 18 seconds long so you're not really able to accurately judge, but the sidebar said the XRS had I/E and the Si was stock or unknown. Pretty vague if you ask me. I say it's possible depending on what's been done, of course, the XRS owner could be lying about the setup.

Yea I forgot the VVT in the Corolla and Matrix XRS and the Celica falls way out of powerband when you shift. An XRS with just an intake will NOT keep up with an Si. It really needs a lot more than bolt ons to do that.

there are actually quite a few videos of xrs's vs. si's. At the end of one, others come up and the si always wins.
yea im not saying an si is a sports car or anything. but a stock xrs isnt gonna keep up. its funny because the video i watched was from a roll (i think 20 or 30 mph from 2nd gear) and the xrs pulls on the "si". it couldnt have been driver error since all the driver of either car has to do, is stomp the gas until the shift to third. it was def an r18, or the xrs wasnt only sporting an intake. total
Didnt look that much faster...After all the talk I was expecting to se the Civic run away it just walked...When did our cars become made for drag racing anyways
1. the video we are talking about, an xrs pulled on a civic, not the other way around.
2. it wasn't drag racing, as they pulled from 2nd gear

If you look through all of the posters videos you will see that they are a collection of videos posted in the 9thgenCorolla forums and other car forums. Almost all the races posted are of different XRS's. Either way, stock for stock it is without a doubt a drivers race although no doubt the Si has the advantage.
Car and driver gave the Corolla XRS a 0-60 time of 7.1 seconds. The same exact course and location the Civic SI hit 0-60 in 6.7. Street start narrowed the gap to .2 second difference. Clearly a drivers race.
The XRS 2ZZ engine is just a detuned version of the Elise/Celica GTS engine. The engine is more than capable of greater output. With I/E a XRS puts down 170HP at the wheels. Still a drivers race. However, look through all the XRS vs. Si vids and its clear neither car is destroying either one.

Wow, way to welcome a new member
I don't see anything to argue in what he said. Especially if they start from a roll, as they did, the gap is going to be much closer.

Wow you really created an account just to spew that nonsense. There's much more to racing than a simple 0-60 time....since the majority go well beyond 60mph.
And funny.....cause Motortrend tested the XRS to a 7.8 second 0-60 time. A full second slower than the Si. And the 1/4 mile time for the XRS is a mid to high 15 seconds AT BEST vs. the 14.9 of the Si. Hardly a "driver's race" if you ask me.
And if you wanna brag about the magnificent 170whp on an XRS with intake and exhaust, keep in mind that numerous people on this site have been putting down mid 180s on a STOCK Si.
You have no place here even remotely attempting to defend your precious Matrix.
Bottom line.......it doesn't match up to the Si..........in ANY department.
That is all!!!!!!!
Oh by the way.....here's a video of your precious XRS gettin walked away from by a WEAKER 160HP Lancer Ralliart.

I'll take your motor trend 1/4 mile time of 14.9 and here is a video of a Corolla XRS stock doing it in 15.3. Whats the point, it's without a doubt a drivers race. Honestly, if anyone of us wanted to be 1/4 mile champs and compensate we would have went out and bought a rustang. The point remains that an XRS with I/E could pull on a stock Si. And I haven't seen any evidence to suggest otherwise. I/E could put out 170 w/h. You're 180 w/hp Si still is heavier than an XRS. Still a drivers race.
BTW thanks for the warm welcome. At least I test drove both cars before I made my decision.

I still agree with you. I think people don't understand the nature of the XRS and just see the boring *** Corolla attached to it. My only complaint is still how the gearing puts you out of hte powerband when you shift. The fact taht the new Si wasn't meant to be a drag car only compounds the confusion of hte issue.
10whp and 100 pounds is negligible, especially on the street from a roll. Driver skill can make or break that race.
Welcome anyway

I've driven the Matrix XRS before. And it's less than 100 lbs. lighter than the Si. And with a 17HP difference the smaller weight is not enough to push it over the Si. And sorry....but I/E on an XRS will not pull on a stock Si with a half-decent driver. Off the line maybe....but not from a cruise. From 2nd gear on the Si is constantly in it's peak powerband when shifting at redline.
And what do Mustangs or 1/4 mile champs have to do with this.....we're comparing two cars. Leave the mustangs out of this.
And if I can walk away from a Celica GTS with an intake and RH (which is about 300 lbs. lighter than an Si).......then i'm pretty sure that I'll have no problem taking out an XRS with the same mods.
By the way.....do you own a 2006+ Civic or did you just create an account to defend the Matrix??
