Default cluster going nust...

I am using a 94 GSR cluster in my 91 crx si. It always worked fine until a few months ago when the temp gauge stopped working. Now, my battery light stays on, the speedo jumps around constantly. Even at a standing idle. I'm gonna pull the vss and see if there is fluid in the connections. The clock has faded out, the turn signals don't work, the radio doesn't work, the temp gauge doesn't work. Also, every now and then while driving it, the buckle seatbelt alarm will beep once. Sound like a bad ground somewhere?

Open up the wiring for the cluster. Sounds to me like it went bad. I've notive that not enough people solder then shrink wrap there connections. They do twist and tape, which breaks over time.

I soldered every connection to the cluster once I knew it was all correct. I checked the ground that behind the hood release, and it is tight. I am told there are 2 or 3 more under the dash, but I don't know where they are.

Check hte cluster and any other non oem wiring. Sounds like a bad ground, maybe the main ground is rusty or loose?

I have an '89 CRX and kno where my grounds are, there is one under the dash close to the steering column and steering wheel area but if you did not mess with it it's unlikely it just came undone or broke (check it anyway). then you have your ground at the tranny & the thermostat you need to check as well as your grounds behind your headlights. these are for your signals and look like little boxes the same color as the other OBD 0 dirty/clear connectors, if there is corrosion there then it will cause all your problems your having. I had to scrape all my grounds last swap since I painted my engine bay, until I cleaned them up I had them same problems your describing.

It could be something in your cluster as well, try using a know good cluster to try out to eliminate that possiblity. I too have a diff cluster in my REX so I know there is not too much you could have messed up, especially if it worked for 8 months w/o problem. check all that crap and then let me kniow what you got?

It's a CRX so it can't be too difficult to figure out, lol. just let me know if you need help or references cause I've had an '88 and a '90 Si and currently have an 89DX and '91 Si

thanks a lot guys. T-stat ground was the first one I checked, and it was good. I'll double check those ground behind the headlights, but they should be fine. I haven't touched them. I will check the one near the steering column as well. I'll let you guys know.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Well, I checked the turn signal fuse and it was blown. Replaced it and everything worked as it should. took it for a drive and it popped again and it all went crazy. I popped the hood and saw that I forgot to plug the reverse sensor wires together and they were grounding out on the chassis causing that fuse to pop. which in turn made all that other stuff go haywire. I plugged them together and taped them up and the fuse hasn't popped yet and everything except the temp gauge works great. Gonna try another dc2 cluster tomorrow to make sure it is a problem with my cluster itself.
