Default Spun bearing help

On my b16 i have a spun bearing on rod number 1 and i need to know if i am going to have to have the crank cut or replaced. You can barely barely feel the scratches on the journal and i have pictures. any advice is appreciated but i am strapped for cash as it is right now and i really need this thing working again. Thanks in advance.

nah its done. look at the color of that journal compared to the others. it got way too hot for way too long. if you mic the crank you'll get to correct measrement. it'll never get the right bearing clearence and will knock. sorry

yeah that thing is done! you could try to find a new crank or maybe a gsr short block. my ls spun a bearing about 6 months ago andi was able to save it. there was NO discoloration on my crank and no gouges either. i could barely hear it. sorry for your luck man.HAPPY THANKSGIVING though.

ya when it's that black..

if you are that poor at the moment you can grab some bearings and plastiguage them. if the clearances are right run it if you have to, but start saving...

The thing is i just bought this shortblock and i need this thing running. I thought the rule of thumb was if your fingernail goes inside the gouge it is done.. i can barely feel the scratch.. it is more of a vibration on my finger.

How long could it last if i just got a new bearing and used plastigauge to measure the clearance?

if you want it to last, I would sugest taking the crank to a machine shop and see if they can clean it up.

or find a new crank and replace the bearings.

If you are really poor and can't do either of those, get some emery cloth (really fine one) and clean up that rod journal yourself. Then you can plasty gauge it and see what bearing you need.

That crank and rod are done, probably the oil pump also. All the stuff you did not find in the oil is in the block, therefore it all has to be cleaned.

How "done" is it? The motor was running when it was pulled out so it should be ok to run untill i can replace it later right?

even if a machine shop can cut the crank it'll cost over a hundred.
