Hello everyone I drive a 96 civic ex with the stock d16y8 motor right now I have the basic bolt ons (I,h,e) and I want to bolt up a supercharger and probably tune it with hondata. My happy with the mpg I'm getting right now but how much will the decrease in mpg be when I put the supercharger on, because this is still my DD. Thanks for any imput.

 

your mpg is based on alot of different things. but if you put an sc on it and beat the crap out the car your gunna get bad mpg anyway. best way to get good mpg is to have a light right foot, make sure the tires are aired properly also. that is probably the most overlooked thing

 

The M62 D series supercharger kit that I have on my EF hatch actually improved the fuel economy on my daily commuting. As long as I'm not trying to break the sound barrier all the time that is. The reason is pretty simple: the volumetric efficiency of the motor gets a really good boost (no pun intended) from the supercharger. You don't need to have your foot to the floor all the time to get the same power levels.

Case in point: There's a reasonably steep hill on my commute to and from work. With the NA setup, I needed almost full throttle in 5th gear to keep 75 mph going up the hill. With the SC, I can maintain my speed with about 30% throttle. That leads to improved fuel economy. Don't be fooled by the "drag" of the blower. At part throttle, the bypass valve keeps the load on the motor to about 1hp. Its only when you close the bypass valve (put your foot down) that you start to build boost, and put load on the motor to drive the SC.

As long as your setup is well tuned for part throttle driving, you WILL see increased fuel economy.

 

Wow increased mpg plus more power that's awesome thanks for the help. Oh I'm gonna be using a jrsc kit (used) with my pwjdm intake, megan header, and 2.25' catback exhaust. Should I be able to break into the 200whp mark with the sc and tune?
