1989 honda prelude starts but quits when engine warms up
so my 89 prelude starts up but once its started for a bit and the engine warms up it dies out and has to sit for a while until you can start it again. i saw a local mechanic and he said it could be the ignition module i got an ignition module to put it but i cant find where its located?
Well, you said you already got the ignitor right? I would just go ahead and install it and see if that helps.
Take off the distributor cap and you should have access to it as far as I know...
Another place that would probably be able to help you more since you have an older Prelude is preludepower.com.

No the ingnition coil is different from the ignitor. The coil is much larger and has a ignition cable going directly from it to the distributor, while the ignitor is a small little black box...looks more like a computer part than a car part

i tried to get the ignition module on but there is no way it will go in the distributor cap because it bolts onto something and shouldnt my car not run if the module is done?

Can you just post a picture of the part you got before you go any further?
Electrical problems like this are generally go on/off randomly becuase of the nature of electrical connections. Your car may run one day and not the next...then run again the next day.

It sounds like your Main Relay. Which is located behind your tray left of the steering wheel.
This is a common Honda problem. The car will start and run, and then after you shut if off, it wont start again until you wait a while.

Yeah, it could definately be the main relay...they're not very expensive anyway. Also might be the ignition switch if the relay doesn't fix it.
