Default What pads for a porter cable?

I think I might take the dive and buy a porter cable to polish the car. The car needs it bad and I have been trying to hold off on buying it and now I think the time has come.

My question is what pads I need? I don't want to spend 100 dollars on pads yet so if I could narrow it down to 3 different pads that would be great.

Also what is the best brand for a polisher?

Thanks guys. Any other info that might be of use in this first time experience would be appreciated

do you need to any kind of paint correction of just some polishing to make the paint pop?

definately get an OC Orange (light cut), White (little is any cut), and a Blue (finishing, glazes, waxes, sealants)

Maybe a yellow pad but you probably wont need that right now.

For a polish, menzerna is the best IMO but pricey, and Optimum Polish is a great polish, sun friendly, and is affordable.

well back when I thought I was taking care of the car I wasnt. I have cobweb scratches from not using a good towel to dry the car off. I would like to try to get rid of all those. I have a few rock chips that I'm going to try to fill with touch up paint (not really sure how to do that and make it look good).

in that case i would get optimum hyper compound as well, you can try the orange pad but a yellow will work faster. keep in mind you will be buffing for a LONG time with a PC to get out swirls, as it isnt fast even with a rotary.

you can try:

OHC with an orange pad followed by OP with a white pad, and then your choice of wax/glaze on the blue pad

use the highest speed (6) for the compound and polish, and bring it down to 2 or so for the wax.

Alright sounds good.

Just for kicks, how long is a "LONG" time?

I dont have any swirls currently on the car just very small scratches from shitty towels.
