9Walmart synth - is it worth it?
A couple of weeks ago, I inherited my brother's old 1989 STD HB. I have sice dropped an HF tansmission into it so that I can have a high fuel economy car to run around in if I make a long trip on level ground, like driving to the Bay. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone here has tried Walmart brand synthetic oil. I was wondering whether it would be appropriate to use in this car. Or is it crap? Am I better off just using a better quality conventional oil if I don't want to pony up for, say, Mobil1?
By Wal-Mart brand do you mean Super Tech? I used to work there for about 2 years changing oil and Super Tech is S#!t! DO NOT USE IT!!!! Just use a good conventional oil. I personally don't see why you would need to run mobile 1 but you could if you wanted too. Just please don't run Super Crap not only is it crappy oil, also the techs don't really give a S#!t about Super Tech oil changes and just do a crappy rush job. Trust me I know we did it all the time. Wal-Mart uses a Fram oil filter on all oil changes, if you want another brand just buy it and tell them you have your own and they will take the cost of the Fram off (it's like 1.93).
BTW Super Tech oil is bidded on by different oil companies to produce it. When I first worked there it was made by Havloine, then the contract was sold to be ONLY BOTTLED by Mobile and made by.... Warren Petroleum if I remember right. I personally have never heard of Warren Petroleum, but I still would trust the Mobile plastic bottle in my motor more then the Warren Petroleum oil
