Default question on koni yellow repair

i was just wondering if it is possible to repair a koni yellow. if so, how much would it run me and where can it be done? i've been running into alot of uneven surfaces in the road and i think my shocks are going bad. i hear that profound thump noise that nobody likes to hear everytime i hit them. it sounds very bad but i dont know if it's severely damaging my shocks. it may or may not be paranoia but i think i notice the shocks beginning to bounce twice when i push down on them.

CRX Lee on here should be able to answer that for you, but yes Konis are completely rebuildable. Whether or not it would be covered under warranty is another story, though.

However he told me that the adjustment **** is able to account for shock wear. So if they feel bouncy on lower settings you can turn them up a little higher to reduce the bouncing.

My Konis are nearly 6 years old with well over 150,000 miles on them and they still seem to be working pretty well for me.

I doubt your dampers are going bad (I hear the same "symptoms" from a lot of people who come into our shop thinking they need shocks, but everything turns out okay), but it is possible. Have you noticed any oil leaking from them at all? Have you checked out the rest of the suspension to make sure the "thump" isn't something else, like worn sway bar bushings? As Patrick mentioned, turn up the rebound a bit. Make sure the adjuster can be turned through its full range of adjustment (slightly less than 2 full turns) - if it cannot turn at all, that is a sign of internal damage.

Konis are indeed rebuildable, but you'd have to send them in for the service, so if you don't have your stock dampers laying around as a backup, then you're SOL if the car is your only means of transportation. Since this is the start of the "offseason" for most racing organizations, they might be getting busy now as well.

Send a PM to CRX Lee if you need to arrange something with Koni.
