Power steering in a sir??
Hey i have a question i did a search and cant find any info or write ups on this im wondering if its worth putting power steering into my 90 crx i am working on turning it to a sir i have a b16a and im just wondering how hard it would be to put power steering in it or if its even worth it im just wondering thanks for any help.
Anything's possible, I dont have any writeups..but power steering on a barely 2000 lb. car just doesnt seem worth the time. But that's my opinion, hope someone else on here can give you better advice.
To add P/S -->

Remove non P/S Engine mount bracket (it has a hole to mount the bracket for the pump on)
Install P/S Rack + Crossmember
Install new Crank Pulley
Install new engine mount bracket if you don't already have the correct one
Install Pump
Install resevoir (sp)
Install high pressure lines
Install low pressure lines
Fill.

i dont see why its worth it.
extra weight, slower steering, increased drag on engine.
wheres the benefit? cant turn your car?
if you look at the specs of a B16 SiR, the steering ratio is high due to the short steering arm of the knuckles.

The only reason i would think
of for adding PS to a CRX would
be for steering.. running
slicked down w/8 psi...
Or if youve got arthiritis or broken wrists??????
IONO.....

Am I the only one that has thought about using the PS from a 4 door?
Personally PS in such a light car is pointless. Hell, I was gonna strip it out of my prelude but decided to sell her instead.

i was just wondering i really dont mind except backing up but ive only had the car for 2 weeks so im still getting used to it thanks for all the info guys
I have power steering in my crx. It came OEM. It's a DualCarbed crx.
Someone talked about "hp loss", and "what's the point of having PS", but everyone else could use the same argument :" what's the point of having 3 more hp?" almost non noticeable.
I think the gallons for mille would be more noticeable if using power sterring than hp loss.
Anyway, Its a breeze driving it in the city. Parking with ps is soooooo sweet. I use this car daily, and it makes diference.
So don't say it is useless. Ask what the car purpose is, and it will make sense.

nah, really. its your car. do whatever you want. its possible. but seeing that you just got the car, take some time to get used to the non power steering. youll find you really dont need it.
yeah, its a "pleasure" sometimes to get into a normal car with power steering and enjoy the total lack of effort or planning needed to navigate at a dead stop, but personally, the non power steering is part of the character of the CRX.

also some civic hatches not sure about crx have the power stearing i have seen a completely stock civic dx
91 it had power sterring and it had cruise allitte box down next to the coin tray it had 5 buttons on it but didnt work dont know what it did but it was for cruise i think.
Oh also if u have a smaller sterring wheel it is harder to turn at dead stop and if u get some thing bigger then stock it might be easy to turn at dead stop i would rather get a bigger sterring wheel then put a ps pump on when u dont need it.

That's because it had an automatic transmission. Automatic Civic DXes had power steering. Manual transmission Civic DXes did not.

Whatever it was, it was aftermarket.

Or you could grow out those toothpick arms and just turn the wheel instead of being a poo-c.
I swear, people make so much ado about power steering when it's just a boondoggle; they think they need it just because it has become a "standard" feature on newer vehicles. Well guess what - newer doesn't necessarily mean better. My stock '91 Civic STD (manual rack) requires less steering effort than my stock '93 Civic EX (power rack) did, AND has more road feel through the steering to boot.
