Is there a obd-1 pr3 ecu?
I am getting a second gen b16a and it is coming with a pr3 ecu. I have searched through some of the archives and a few people siad they had an obd1 pr3, but there wasnt much info about it. Anyways, I am courious if the obd1 pr3 does exist and if so, what makes it different than the p30? Thanks
j0e! u finally made it! i'd like to be the first to welcome you to Honda-Tech! can anybody help this guy out?! i went and checked out the engine for him today and everything looked good, except it came w/ a pr3 ecu. that's the same ecu that i'm runnin' for my first gen b16 in my '88 hatch. will this work on his swap? thanks for any help!
The PR3 ECU is pre ODB1.
The difference between the PR3 and P30 are:
* the connectors
* the PR3 ECU uses two O2 sensors, the P30 only one (and different types of O2 sensors)
* the two ECU's uses different types of distributors
* and of course, the internals of the ECU's are complete diffrent (processor, eprom, almost everthing)
If you want to swap the engine/ecu you have to take care about the O2 sensors and the distributor, the rest should work.
You can even check out http://www.hondata.com . They have some informations about the different ECU's on there site. Check the TECH section.

actually when i bought my gen 2 b16a i got an obd-1 pr3... so yes it does exist.. there are not significant differences though. If you are stuck on finding a vtec ecu, just graba p28 adn get eg6ajk to put in a p30 chip and remove the speed limiter and adjust the vtec crossover to wherever you would like it.
