This car is supposed to come out late this year...and have 250hp and be UNDER 30k...anybody have some real good info on it? like exact date or price..anybody???

I called the dealer a couple weeks ago... they couldnt tell me a damn thing. I gave him more info than he provided. All he says is it's due out late summer

check out the new "Sport Compact Car" They compare it to their project WRX and it ownz they have plenty of stats their to I would list them out for you but I left it at work

 

I heard it was going to be cheaper than the WRX, at least stickered cheaper. We have the largest volume Subaru dealer in a suburb of Rochester, the WRX was going for low $23K and that was when sales were on fire (I suppose they still are).
I would love the Evo 6.5 Makinen edition, looks like a beast....

it has been confirmed by mitsu. japan to hit our shores on jan 03. this is why i'm saving now. it's supposed to cost about $30k. i'll also believe it when i see it.

 

It would also be nice to see the wrx sti next year!

 

Nobody has confirmed ANY power numbers on the US-spec Evo.... it could have 200 hp, it could have 300.... why not save your nickels and dimes for something that's at least tangible...

 

what's tangible in your opinion? surely if i spend $25k+ on a wrx, i can spend $30k on a world legend. mitsu speculated that the bhp would be around 276 or more. it'll still be interesting to see here when it makes it.

 

I saw somewhere that it will be available Jan 2003 and the final price number hasn't been released yet. The STI may come to the US but I wouldn't count on it, it will be very expensive.

Uh, I don't really care about it's US-spec output. As long as it gets here!

Plus, who in their right mind drives STOCK? Obviously there's going to be a long list of mods that's available once it hits our shores. And I'm going to jump into once it becomes available here. I'm not too fond of the WRX's boxer design, or else I would be in one already.

 

Yeah those horizontally opposed engines are such a sorry design... they've been winning LeMans races for decades.


I guess if you're not concerned about stock power output I don't see the point... the new Lancer chassis is nothing to scream about, and I haven't seen any convincing information that indicates the US-spec Evo is going to even compare to the true Evolution models that exist in the RHD world.

in the new scc the stock evo VII out did their project wrx in every categrogy. that car is gonna be awesome.

 

Stock EvoVII from what market? It sure wasn't a USDM version, and once again I state that nobody has a freaking CLUE how the two are going to compare.

All this damn hype over a car that doesn't exist yet, that even the manufacturer won't give any specs on.

MAYBE the car will completely kick ***. But I wish everyone would get off the bandwagon and wait for it to actually EXIST, even on PAPER, before they go and wet themselves over it.

 

Comparing the EVO VII to a WRX is like comparing a GSR to a TYPE R. 2 different machines.....I think a better comparision to the WRX is a Lancer GSR( regular WRX version of EVO ) and comparing a STi WRX to the EVO VII. And according to how WRC is doing now....Subaru is in 3rd and Mitsubishi is in like 5th in manufacturing points. Damn "Magazine Racers"!!! Hahahaaa j/p

From what I have heard we are not going to be getting a stripped Evo VII. I highly doubt it will come with the same seats, but I think the power output will be respectable. Around 250hp to run on Cali's shitty 91 premium.

 

my opinion is for the estimated cost of $30k, the evo VII should come with a beautiful interior as the type r did. the evo VII will come and the press knows it. i understand that we are expressing some anxiety over the evo VII, but weren't we doing that for the wrx when we had no idea when it'd be here?

 

Well there are solid numbers for the evo but I dunno if its special because it was a europe model...... but anyway one of the car mags I read pitted the EVO against their PROJECT WRX.

Please note the WRX had all these mods to it already, like replaced up-pipe taking the cat out between turbo etc... cat back and other misc ****.

The EVO was STOCK.

They did handling tests, skid pads, 1/4 all day and the EVO spanked the **** outta the wrx all day long. The lancer had a claimed 255hp at the crank I believe and the wrx had like 230whp or something like that.

Long story short the evo stock owns the wrx unless the SUPER-dwarf it when it comes over here, which wouldn't be suprising.

 

put the europe spec wrx vs the europe spec evo and the results would have been different. i believe the evo still had a 25 hp advantage. better yet put the sti version against the evo for a better comparison. i believe the evo made 276 hp stock.

you guys act like the evo is god and the wrx is a daewoo or something. in the rally series those cars are usually dead even in terms of power, handling, etc.

 

i agree with what you're saying about a comparison but lets not go into comparing rally vs rally. those cars are state of the art and they all work with guidelines in terms of power, handling, chassis, wheels, etc. that's a million dollar ride you're talking about.
