This is driving me insane
So has anybody ever experienced an issue with the drivers side door cutting out sound to all the speakers in your car as soon as the hinges are fully open and touch metal-on-metal with themselves or as soon as the door touches the latch mounted to the door jam / body of car? (or anything else metal for that matter.......)
Thats exactly whats happening to me right now and im about to rip the door straight off
oh god please help

well i disconnected the drivers side front door from the rest of the harness and everything works as supposed to with the drivers door disconnected from power completely...so i know its in that door's harness somewhere....
what could it be....or how can i bypass this? (i.e. running a ground cable from door to negative terminal of battery?)

well youve already isolated the problem to teh drivers door. so check for freyed wires or spots where it could be grounding. you definitely have a short somewhere. coudl be in the harness where it goes bwteen the dash board and the door. since you said it happens when the door is fully open
already pulled the rubber housing off and disconected the wires that run out from under the dash into the drivers door. when the drivers door is totally disconnected the drive door does not effect anything (obviously). So...the wires from dash to door are all good. idk...maybe a pin came loose from one of our plastic male wiring harness connectors? (but ive disconnected and reconnected all of those and had no trouble there (i.e. loose pin inside connector etc))
getting close...nothing yet though

as long as the speaker connection that plugs in seperately under that dash in unplugged theres no grounding issue and all 3 other speakers and my subs work.
Thats the only way around this Ive found so far. Is there any way to tap into the sound system's harness bypassing the connection under the dash? should i look to splice into a connection closer to the head unit? if anybody could still help at this point thad be great
thankya!

alright...heres a compromise:
> I've got 4 Pioneers in my car. All 4 are 6 1/2 160W Speakers.
> As you all know. ONLY the wiring harness thats shorting my WHOLE drivers door is the speaker harness only.
> As soon as the speaker harness for that door is unplugged from under the dash and the door makes contact with the body of the car it will not short. If plugged IN...it WILL short. (regardless if a speaker is connected, grounded etc. No Change there)
So to get to the point, the only thing Ive thought of to correct the issue its to splice Left rear and left front speakers together. If Im correct stereo in our cars involves 2 channels (left and right). We can choose to fade power to front or rear but that doesnt effect the stereo and is not a feature of stereo. So If I splice front speakers into the rears and fade the sound all the way to the rear speakers I should not hear a change and should recieve full sound intensisty thru all speakers.
Right?
