2001 Accord Brake Upgrade Question
Hi,
I've a 2001 Accord EX with 80,000 miles, and it's time to do the brakes. It will cost me about $500 - $600 for OEM parts (pads and rotors for all 4 wheels) from the dealer, but the OEM parts (even when new) don't stop the car very well compared to my 1995 BMW 525i.
Does anyone know of there any rotor & pad kits / combo's out there that would be in the same $500 - $600 range, but give me some real stopping power?
Thanks in advance,
bryanz

Well if you let the dealer do it, it's going to cost WAY too much.
I would get some Brembo Blanks or Power Slots in the front. Use some carbon metallic or HAWK brand or even better Green Stuff. Bleed the brakes and fill it up with some Synthetic brake fluid. DOT 4. As for the rear, you can go regular rotors, or Brembo blanks. with some Ceramic brakes.
I would definitely use powerslots in the front.
Hope this helps....

I wouldn't have the dealer do something as simple as brake rotors and pads. I have had some brembo rotors on the 525i in the past that were green (warped soon after installation), so went back to OEM - never a problem.
I'm just looking for strong, responsive brakes - do the ceramic pads respond as quickly as OEM?
thanks.

You do realize you're comparing a BMW to a Honda?
A BMW that cost over double what that accord cost?
Of course it will stop better.
Brembo blanks, and better pads (cobalt friction is my fav) or HAWK pads

have you considered a factory part upgrade? What you can do is put like Acura TL or S2000 brakes on your accord, and I know that you can get a setup (with new pads and rotors) under 600$. PM me if you're interested.
