Default Starting problem

Okay this is an off and on problem. For Example This morning I went to start my car this morning and it kept doing this thing where it would run for a second or less and cutt off. maybe 8 times i tried to start it. Finally i held pedal to floor and it started fines. The rest of the day teh car was fine. I left it sit for 8 hours at work and it started fine went to a friends house and let it sit for about 3 hours and it done it again. been doing it since sunday now and its never the same. What could be the problem once it is running it runs fine. This is an automatic Civic DX DPFI.
