Default Help! Having Problems with 98 Prelude!

i have a 1998 honda prelude- automatic. i am haven some problems with the engine. I have 180,xxx miles. engine running stong still. but recently ive been having some probelms.
I turn on the car and everythings fine.. It turns on normal. everything sounds good!.So i start to drive, in about 10-25 mins in to my driving my car starts kicking back and my rpms drop hella low for a split second. U just got that quick feeling of the car pulling back with the rpms dropping very low and then rpms geting back to normal all of a sudden.. Other times when that happens My rpms drop down to 0 and stays held down for about 2 seconds and then comes back to normal rpms that i was driving... I do have the check engine light. tested it and it said my catalytic converter. Can it be that?..but y does my rpms sometimes stay stuck @ 0rpms? I know if my cat is busted my car will tog back but i know it wouldnt drop my rpms down to 0 and hold them down for a bit and then return.
Another problem with the car is that When i am driving at about 3,000 or so rpms goin about 60-65. I give it a lil bit of some gas to pick up some speed, just to 4,000 rpms and all of a sudden my rpms start jumping high and then goes higher and then start hitting about 8,000 rpms. @ this point i am not stepping down on the gas all the way. just giving it some gas.. And then When i do step on it my rpms will do the same, go all crazy!.. but when i do step on it my rpms seem to pass over the redline mark passed the 8,000rpms shown on the dash..It goes very far off the redline. Kinda makes u think. What the hell is goin on!.
I need some serious help. and srry for the long message.
I recently changed my oil. new spark plugs. and cleaned my Idle air control valve, I had my auto tranny rebuilt about 2 months ago. but i do not think its that..

Your distributor is going, specifically the ICM.

kool...Yea that fixxed the problem..I opened the distributor and i just look around, diconnect the icm and i noticed my yellow with blue strip wire is cracked in multiple places..so i get some electrical tape and just wrapped the wire around with electrical tape. disconnected the icm and made sure the wires were connected to it right..after all this i take my car for a drive and it works..my rpms dont go all crazy anymore..But do u think i need to replace the wiring?..if so where can i get that wiring @ low cost..ive already tried searching for it but no luck yet..any help? Or do u think ishould just get a new icm just o be on the safe side that it wasnt that..i still need that wire though im thinking..i read around and said that, that can be a reason for my icm messing up.

I might have a set of wires laying around, I'll look tonight.

If I do, $15 shipped will get you the set.

Good find
