Default Please help, Need advice on b18c5 n/a build

Hey everyone, my name is Andy and I live in Maryland. I have 97 Ek hatch with a JDM ITR B18C5 w/ trans (full swap) that I bought it second hand about a year ago. Since then I have added I/H/E and ignition. Well, to make a long story short, it has been burning oil since I got it and now I have what sound like rod knock.

This is my daily driver. But, I do want to build up the engine for more power but nothing crazy(between 220-250hp,N/A would be nice). I’ve been searching, reading different posts, and reviews, basically trying to as much home work as possible on this. Some info I still need though. Now I would like to get some feedback from people that have done this before and know what they are doing and talking about. I really don't want to F*** up my car!

So tell me if what I'd like to do makes sense and would still be reliable while giving me good power. I've broken it down to 3 parts Tuning, Head, and bottom end.

Tuning- Hondata, I need to find a good tuner in the area, ya know anyone?

Head:
Port and polish+ valve job, Sk2 pro 1 or 2 cams(not sure what would be best), ss valves + springs+ Ti retainers probably Omni they seem to be of high quality and a great price. Unorthodox Ultra Tr light weight cam gears or if those are no good than Sk2 Pro's.

Bottom end:
I really need some advice on this as to how much I should get the block bored and how much Compression I should go with. But basically rebuild te entire bottom end. Bored, honed, blueprinted, crank balances-micro polish, decked, new seals, bearings, ARP studs, bla bla bla.
Rods- Carrillo Pro A (for light weight)
Pistons- Not sure, there are so many but, I am leaning toward CP. Any recommendations are welcome!
N1 crank pully, if it would be safe after evrything was balanced
Rage knock off header

Some questions I have are, again, how much should I get the block bored, how much compression should I run, Do you think the light weight parts that I chose wuld be safe, and powerful, and does anyone recommend any shops in the area.

Thanks again guys and sorry for the long post!
Any info is appreciated!

First of all B20vtech, it's "VTEC" not Vtech (that's a phone)

If you do SLEEVE. DITCH the type r and get a gsr or ls block. The type r was already built perfect why mess with it. Sell the type r block (700+++), buy and ls block (100-300). So much more torque and much cheaper to build then the type r as it is more expensive to buy in the first place.

You want to hit 220? You don't need to do all that B20vtech says to hit 220. Just get a b20 block, rs pistons, sk2 stage2, dual springs/retainers, type r head already has a mild p&p, 330cc's, msd ignition, etc... and TUNE TUNE TUNE...Know guys with this setup up in the 240 whp easy.

If you do what B20vtech says rather go turbo with all that $$$$$$$$money spent.

i know the set-up u quoted on the b20 block side will see 240whp+ but not with a stock R head!! and u do not need those useless piece of MSD **** to make power on applications like this, a waste of money and time putting it in... Guys with those b20 stock sleeve set-ups making 240 whp+ uses Portflow or Alaniz competition heads that flows 270-280+cfm....

real 220 whp can be had easily with a stock port head... with mostly off the shelf crap... with good head work **** starts happening pretty fast

It's smoking and more than likely it's just a few bucks to fix. RINGS!!! You still can sell it for 700+++ YOU SHOULD READ THE TREAD MORE CAREFULLY. As he stated that he's looking on making horsepower in the range of 250hp. I merely suggested that he just sell his current parts for some cash and get some cheaper parts that are realible yet it can get him in that horsepower range.

If you get the ls crank you'll have to change a few things: modify the bearings, he'll have to get the ls rods, etc, etc... NOT A SIMPLE BOLT IN APPLICATION BOY!!!. I've done it before in a gsr block and trust me it's not simple. So why not just go with the ls block now. If you were reading what I'm suggesting is that he just buy a cheap ls or b20 block and build that on the side and still hit that horse power rather than using his already good type r block for that kind of build. REASEARCH KID!!!

first of all, "RINGS" would not be the only reason why a motor is smoking, it can be crack ringlands, score up cylinder walls, bad rings, and if u get into the head part it would be bad valve stem cells ect ect... and u are the one that needs to read it more carefully boy, cause he stated 220-250 NA bro...

Maybe you should read. I said maybe rings and that could still sell for 700. What you are stating could mean his motor is busted. I don't know if you can even run your motor with all those problems you just stated. Ouch!!! Burn ****.
