Default Mac's 91 Civic Ex Sedan build thread: Project "Beater" - Engine swap, paint and lots of pics!

11-14-07 - The beginning, brought the car home.
11-14-07 - Cleaned up the interior a bit.
---------------------------------

My name is Terrance and welcome to my 91 Civic thread: Project "Beater".

I have another build thread on my 94 GSR Sedan and I've tried to make it interesting and fun to follow and I'll try to do the same with this thread. I do all my own work (or try to anyway) and do fairly detailed DIY's on anything I do: from installing a dead pedal to installing coil over suspensions and engine rebuilding.

A lil warning: I do get wordy sometimes and I have an over active imagination coupled with an whacked out sense of humor.

So, lets get started!
-------------------------------

I've acquired a 91 Civic EX Sedan from my brother in law, Andrew. He purchased it for $1,600 with a b16a swap in it with the sole intention of yanking the B16 out and sticking it in his 91 SI CRX, which he has done.

Which left a rolling shell sitting in his yard. So, through manipulation and mind control I've managed to get the shell rather cheap (I think we decided $300.00). He trailered it to my house last night (these are older pics, at Andrews house, not mine)

Here's what I have:

And a pic when it had the B16 in it.

My plans on it are as follows
-- New paint (White)
-- Shave and paint the engine bay
-- Install engine/tranny
-- Wire tuck
-- Stereo install
-- Re-install the AC (Live in Florida, a must)
-- Different wheels
----- MAYBE a drop
----- MAYBE interior swap
----- MAYBE power to manual window conversion.

Now, this Saturday, at the local pick N pull junk yard, they are having a half off special on ANYTHING in the yard. I've been lookin for a D series/manual tranny to stick in this thing and I THINK this might be the ticket to a cheap setup.

Heck, if they have a y8 out there with a good head, I just might snag it OR swap that head with another block do a mini me They might have a B series out there too (doubt it) but if they do, then a B18a/b will be goin in.

Aside from that, I'm going to be doing the prep and paint on this very soon. I want to get into automotive painting on the side and this will be EXCELLENT practice before I dive into painting my baby, my GSR.

I'll update frequently and always take lots of pics and video's. Maybe it can be as good as some of the other build threads in the EF forum

Enj0y!

Ya know... After checking out some of the other Ef sedan build threads.. I must say that when they are fixed up, they look pretty damn good.

My buddy Eli has always said they were his fav civic and they looked really good lowered w/some nice track R's or something.. I use to disagree.

Not anymore!

Well, a small update.. I didnt get much at pick N pull, though I'm goin back.

I did manage to snag some 91 SI front seats as well as the cluster.

Now, there's a D15b2 out there that has a new head on it.. I mean it's in perfect shape, I"ll snap smoe pics of it when I go back. I MIGHT get it, I dunno.

I did pull the cam out of the SI, since I"ve read thats about the main diference between the heads that makes the pwoer.

Also snagged some SI injectors and ful rail while I was there too. Gonna go MPFI.

I"ll update with pics when I get back.

you know it man!

This one isn't gonna last quite as long as my teg.. But it'll be interesting while it's goin!
--------------------

My day started out rather cold on saturday...My car was FROZEN!

Ended up onl getting the seats, cluster and fuel rail... But stupid me LEFT the cluster on the counter. I've got to call Pick N pull to see if I can pick it up.. But it's probably gone

While I was there, though, I did snag a coupel pics of this beast...

Geo power babY!!!

Taz, trying desperately to escape the ghayness....

So yeah..

I've called a guy about a D15b7 w/tranny.. Waiting on him to return my call. MAYBE I can get something set up on that. It's already MPFI so I won't have to worry with the hassle of swapping stuff over

Which means I won't be needing the PR3 b16 ECU I have
88Edit** Here's a link to the FS thread on the ECU.

You might want to check out a cam from an automatic dx. The last time I checked a chilton it said the automatic cam had more lift. I could be wrong but its worth looking into

I couldn't imagine the same engine code having different camshafts just because it has a different transmission on it.

Actually.. Research B16 cams. I can't remember what year, but the Automatic B16's cams were a lil more tame.

Well, the harness is being modified for the wire tuck! My bro is gonna be doing it for me, though I'm gonna get up there and help out when I can.

he has a built A6 thats out of the car now that he uses to make sure everything is the correct length and whatnot.

It's gonna look nice

Also, the deal fell though on me snagging a b7 for $150.00 With that happening, though, I now have the money to get my Integra Dyno Tuned!!!!

For those who care...
down...
And the run:

Those #'s were with a blown head gasket... Don't ask.
So we'll see what I put down. Going back for final tuning and Dyno time will probably be Monday night Lookin for high, high 160's to low 170's. We'll see.
-----------------------------

In the meantime, I'll work on cleaning up the civic. The engine bay is really dirty as well as the interior
