S2000 Brake Upgrade for my DA Integra
Ok here we go. Got the first one on my DA 93 integra. Straight bolt on like stated. The one thing that didn't go straight back on way the brake line in its original place. Just a tad short, but nothing zip ties cant handle.
To the pics.

Stock brakes on the left... s2000 on the right. To me the stock ls pads look better than the s2000 pads? More surface area from the Integras? Isn't that why everyone whines for blank rotors compared to slotted and drilled. Wouldn't that be the same theory as brake pads here? I dont see why not?

The brak line shot. Just a little short. Remember this is a DA not DC car.

Everything went smooth as state when I bought them. I havent tested them out yet, have to put the other side on tomorrow. But they look good. LOL. Seriously though I hope they help out a lot with my braking.

Cost me $450 for everything bolt up. I purchased it from BrakeExpert on here.
Took about an Hour for one. Could have been faster but just taking my time with pics and seeing fitament stuff. I did have to bend the dust shield a little.

wow i cant even tell if the pads are any bigger.... all you really did was put on bigger rotors..... should have looked into the NSX calipers(twin pistons) or the Legend twin pistons.... i did the legend twin pistons on my DC and the pads are at least %50 larger... i just cant wait to get my motor in so i can drive mine....

Incorrect. The S2000 uses a single-piston floating front caliper just like Civics and Integras.
Here's the parts diagram for S2000 front brakes:

You can tell even just by looking at the photos above. Twin-piston floating calipers have 2 of those half-round cuts on the side of the caliper that faces the wheel spokes, whereas single-piston calipers only have that one half-round cut. The purpose of the half-round cut is to allow a c-clamp or similar tool to be used to compress the piston into the bore when installing new brake pads. There would be no room on a twin-piston caliper if it only had a single half-round cut like pictured above.

youre right about that too. actually, other than the bigger rotors, theres nothing really special about this. its a stock, generic 1 piston caliper. the pads of a 90-91 CRX Si are nearly the same size as the S2000 pads too (you jsut have to grind off the tab a bit to make a S2000 pad fit in the 90-91 Si caliper). S2000 owners bemoan the lack of brakes on track. i hear from previous ITR owners who own S2000's say their type R brakes were better. not that they really suck, but nothing to write home about.
it is an interesting conversion tho.
now the killer setup would be using RSX JDM brembo's.

tell them to try Man brake pads and teach them how to get done with braking quickly to avoid overheating them
i've heard the exact opposite

Well good pads and proper technique will make any set of brakes more effective. That doesn't really speak to the effectiveness of the equipment itself though.

hers a comparison of the S2000 VS LEGEND

s2000 on the left legend right... as you can see the legend pad area is about an 1.25" longer and about .5" wider.... i estimate its about a 50% increase in surface area...
and my legend caliper:

these are hawk hp+ pads this combined with larger rotors(97 prelude VTEC redrilled) and legend dual piston calipers should make for some really nice stopping power......
NOTE: not all legends had the twin piston calipers... it took me a while to find the right part number at kragen.... these should be optional for the 95 4dr legends....
most auto parts stores can bring up a picture of each specific part.... thats how i identified these calipers.... also when ordered you need them to come with brackets

and my cost:
legend calipers $100 each
pads $100
SS brake lines $110
Rotors $30 each
redrill labor $35 both
so for $475 and some grinding of the bracket i should have some nice stopping power for my dc4

The S2000 pad does look pretty small. However, it is taller than the DA pad. If you look at their height, the S2000 pad would make a larger 'donut' so if they could cover the same rotor, the S pad will cover more surface area. It was made small because of the lightweight caliper, but also does have the uneven obtuse angles leading and trailing to reduce noise, and you do have the second bite line for increased performance. The overall pad shape of the S2000 pad helps promote radial heat distribution. If you look at the 97+ NSX pad, this is pretty much the same shape and style, just not quite as long. Remember too that the S2000 uses a smaller piston than the DA, so the smaller pad increases the pressure that piston is doing on the rotor. </TD></TR></TABLE>

Correction, I'm quite sure that all RSX's are 5 lug, I'm quite sure because I had my set of RSX-S rotors redrilled to 4x100. I'm curious to know, what size are the S2K front rotors? The RSX Type S use 300mm rotors.
The jury is out on the performance of the S2K caliper... Funny that Mugen AGB front brake calipers for the ITR are merely OEM S2K calipers... Mugen figures that the S2K single pistons do a fine job... A much better job than the stock ITR actually (judging by the price tag they put on their kit...)

my apologies! youre right, RSX are all 5 door. thank you for correcting me.
i meant the EP3 civic Si actually. it went from 4 lug to 5 lug in its 3 year or something. i think ppl use RSX knuckles in earlier EP3 for cheap 5 lug conversion. thats why i got them confused.
so is a 4 lug EP3 rotor possible? is it even the same as the later 5 lug rotors (dimensionally)?

Yeah, you're totally right about the EP3, it definitely went from 4 lug to 5 lug... But I'm like 99% sure it never had a descently sized front rotor... if it did, that would make my life a lot easier.
OT: The best thing about those 4 lug ep3s is the rear rotors, and caliper brackets bolt onto any 4x100 civic or integra rear disc setup... and you get an instant 10.3" big rotor swap... Its pretty much useless bling, but if I ever come across an EP3 in the junkyard I think I'm gonna scavenge those brackets... Why not.
