thats compressor surge because the type rs bov doesnt flutter it just makes the woosh sound. i say you open up your bov and probably lube it up or something because mines has no problems at 8psi. what vac source are you using for your bov?

Tried a Dedicated Vac source just for the BOV?

hmm im not sure mine hasnt ever surged and im at 8psi. just popped it on straight out of the box and adjusted it. i always used a single vac source for my bov. so im stumped with your surge problem

not true, if you set it pretty tight it will indeed flutter... and i mean flutter, not surge.

a bit off topic but mine was surging and fluttering even when it was all the way loose and im running 14psi first surge then the bov went off... pretty weird... oh well, ill check it out later...

to the OP good luck also best thing to do to check it is pop your hood have someone rev it and see if the noise is coming from the bov or the turbo, if its surge it will come from the turbo...

im not sure what kind of technology you have that stops your turbo from spinning at idle, but every turbo car ive seen including mine will spool up if you rev on it at idle, think about it...

theres different kinds of 2step, i dont know what you have but i have aem ems and we can control how much it boosts on the 2step, mine only builds about 2psi on the 2step set at 4.5, i can get it to boost 10psi if i want, if i just rev it out to like 7k in neutral the turbo spools enough to open the blow off valve or surge if it is indeed surging, my friends rx7 is the same way, thats how we found out he was surging.

Mine does.

My assumption is that the pressure can go positive for a split second when you close the throttle plate, this spike wont show on your boost gauge unless you put the vac line before the TB.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a slight amount of surge every once in a while acceptable..? or is all this another HT myth that will never disappear?

i have a ball bearing

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by cruisemainst1 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote"> but im pretty sure im surging during low boost. one more question, is it possible to surge not going into boost? thats what i think im hearing around 10inHg to 0</TD></TR></TABLE>

ya know i would say logic says no, but im gonna say it might be possible cause my blow valve will open if i let off -.3 to 0psi so there certainly is something happening there before the gauge shows boost, but i do know most gauges are about 2psi off... not sure if thats why though.

If you have a small turbo or any turbo it will spool when you hit the gas. Not necessarily build boost but it will turn. As far as you hearing something before it goes into boost. The turbo has to start building boost so you will hear it start building boost before it actualy goes into boost. Because the motor is going to keep drawing in air, and the turbo has to push more air than the motor is drawing in. Like when you start to pull a big hill the turbo will spool, but you will not see it on your gauge. Turbo's respond to engine load not necessarily engine rpm. That's why most people can't build boost when they just hit the gas sitting still. If you kit the throttle a couple of times you might get the blow off valve to kick. As far as the flutter that is terrible for the turbo. It will cause stacking on the turbo. That is when the boost pressure is forced back thru the turbo. Your bov may need to be dissasembled and lubed with just a very little amount of assembly lube. Not a lot. As far as what spring to use. Not sure I haven't used the RS. I had one that had a brass plunger and I would have to lube it every once and a while. Sometimes used Vasoline.

thanks for the good info^ yeah i've been trying to stay out of boost to avoid that flutter sound but the surge has still been there in normal driving.

have you tried another BOV besides the one you are having problems with?

I am surging also, I made a thread about it a couple weeks ago, I changed to a slightly larger vacumn line and a larger nipple on the Manifold and gave the BOV its own independent line and it still does it, and this is on a T67
