welding schools in so cail
iam looking to get a job doing some fabrication but i would like to learn the basics at a local school. any one know of a school that has a good welding program in sothern cail? i know MT. SAC does but is there any others ? i have done some TIG and MIG at a local Hot rod shop but i didnt have enough experince for him to be abel to hire me he suggested i take some basic welding classes.
If you want to take a good Tig class Cerritos College has by far the best welding programs in California for a college. They just got 15 new Miller Dynasty 350 welders, and 3 back purge booth. If you plan on going or checking it out i highly recommend you look into Tues/Thurs with David Perkins.
thanks Luserkid ill look into Cerritos College. do you know if they have night classes ? or weekends?
as for "the fab school " place that would be my last choice i was recomended not to go to schools like that plus last time i checkd they are like 7,500$ a class and theirs 3 classes ill pass

They have tues/thurs night classes (5-9) Thats what im taking. They also have a morning class m/w. Problem is they only have 2 Tig welding teachers so class time is limited, they are trying to get some more from what i heard.

You can also check out El Camino College in Torrance. They have a pretty big facility. The professor will explain the basic concept and then you can just practice in there and ask for assistance if youre having troubles. Very laid back, but a good opportunity to practice and get familiar with the process. They also have night classes if you work during the day.

I won’t tell you they are the best by any means, But I will tell you this is where I hire my people from. The majority of the people I hire have a clue about fab work. Troy gives the students some real world experience and it shows. You can get some welding experience anywhere but Fab work….. that’s another story.

well ive done a small amount of fab work not a whole lot but i would much rather look for a job that is willing to teach me how then for me to go spend 8K to learn how i have already delt with them stupid trade schools i am UTI grad it was a great school dont get me wrong but it cost way to much money.and i could have gone to almost any local callage and taken all the same classes for less then half the price. UTI cost me and my mom 25k

Cerritos does NOT charge a lab fee and are fighting to keep it that way every semester. All of their materials are all donated by people and local companies. As for the weekend classes the only ones that i know they teach is a saturday arc class. Like i said in the other post they are trying to get more tig teachers to allow for more classes. But as of right now there is no weekend class for Tig. I know last summer they had a 5 day a week 4 hour day class. Most of those guys from that summer class passed their cert test in Aluminum and SS in 2F.
Also as for books we dont have text books but they do recommend the Gas Tungsten Arc Welding Handbook which is a great book. Its a great resource.
