Roses are played out...
My GF's birthday was last weekend, and I figured I'd make her something special. I was planning on making her a flower, and luckily for me her favorite flower is the lilly (less petals to make lol). I had origonally planned on painting it, or getting it powder coated, but was convinced by my freinds to keep it natural. I'm glad I did, as I think I would have regreted painting it

Summary: 16 gauge mild steel petals and leafs with a stainless stem and "pods." Over time the petals should rust, and it will become an orange flower.
$5 bucks and 5 hours later:

I love ya babe!

What all does it take/tools/etc?

Well, the basics of what I used were: a plasma, torch, TIG, iron worker, belt sander, and some pliers. You really don't need the iron worker, but it made bending the crease into the pedals much easier.

Thanks for the compliment but I did use the macro. Sure I'm no photographer, but the pics are more than good enough for me. I did have to reduce the pixel size though to resize them.

The real beauty of all that is the next time you need to buy a new welder or shop equipment, she'll be on board with it.
Let that be a lesson to you guys with kids too. Bring 'em out to the shop now and then, let 'em weld and bend some stuff. Mom see's it as quality time, and useful. Easier sell come "tool time". Plus, it's generally fun to have 'em in the shop anyway.
