I'm probably going to have to have my clutch changed out and am thinking of having a light weight flywheel (probably Comptech) put in at the same time. I was wondering if those of you with lightweight flywheels notice any negative effects on drivability. Is the car significantly rougher to drive or have any problems keeping idle? I've heard that cars with light flywheels have a harder time keeping idle and are really rough with throttle changes. I'm just concerned because my car is a daily driver and isn't only driven by me. Thanks in advance.

i am Running the JUN lighweight. Its sooooo fun. It roars through gears. You feel the small loss in torque but dang! i wish i would have picked up the ultra lightweight. Highway racing

Yeah, its there to act as a contact plate for the clutch and to absorb heat.
Neither of which need WEIGHT to do.

Weight = more dense = better heat absorbition...
and while also on topic...is fidanza flywheels any good? I've heard h-t members say good things before

Just wonder if anyone had ever heard of stories of LFW exploede in high-rev imports? Anyhow, in our cars, it would rip through the passenger's compartment not the driver's right?

Well, I've heard numerous stories about exploded fliywheels that cost human lives. But mostly on domestic cars so I wonder if anyone heard of such happening in high-reving imports...basically, the fw will rip through the cabin and it will cut you up in the body like a big ninja star. My friend's teacher's son died like that.

The stories about exploding flywheels is more in regards to a LIGHTENED factory unit--not an aluminum or chromoly aftermarket unit.
As for driveability, my 9.1 lb Exedy chromoly fly is 100% fine in normal driving conditions. It rocks on the dragstrip and road course!!!
Rgarding going too light, remember-- the damb clutch assembly is bolted to the flywheel as well, thus adding weight to the rotating assembly. The engine is spinning more than just the flywheel!
There is so much negative BS about lightweight flys...

Can someone explain then why the stock flywheels are so heavy then? Especially, the Si flywheel, which I weighed on the scale (16.9lbs!)
