b18 swap questionz
are the mounts different between auto and manuel trans for a b18 swap? cuz i'm going to be keeping the sedan an automatic for the sake of being different. is it true that when doing the swap i use 90-01 passenger axle and 94-01 driver axle? and which shifter cables do i use civ or teg? any help would be appreciated, i'm not to familar with swapping automatic trannies.
All I have to say is that if you are dead-set on automatic, don't even bother with this swap. Because I am not even sure if it is possible. For starters, your typical Hasport kit will not work. Hasport kits are designed to work with manual transmissions, and automatic transmissions use a completely different mount. So at the very least, you are going to find yourself fabricating a new transmission mount if you want an automatic swap.
Then there is the issue of fitment. Simply put I don't know that an automatic transmission will even fit in the engine bay. It is actually significantly larger than the manual transmission. In particular, it is more cylindrical, and will possibly have problems clearing the passenger side frame rail. Extensive modifications in this area might be required in order to make it fit.
As for shifter cables, you are kind of on your own here. The problem is that NOBODY does automatic swaps. They're just TOO hard. And most swappers don't want an automatic transmission to begin with. So it is unlikely that anyone can help you much here. Although you probably don't want to hear this, my recommendation is to just go manual. You will have FAR fewer headaches to deal with. Not to mention that the performance will be better. Yes, it may be what everybody else out there does. But in this case, there are damn good reasons why this is so. Besides, there are better ways out there to be different.
By the way, if you still are set on an automatic transmission, you should probably stick with a D-series motor, since you will not have transmission fitment issues. If your car is not an EX, you can always upgrade to a D16A6. Or you could drop in a D16Z6 (SOHC VTEC) from a 1992-1995 EX.

thanx for your input. although thats not really what i wanted to hear. i haven't yet really looked at the b series auto trans yet. but why in the hell would it be so much bigger than the 5 speed? and if i am to go with swapping to a 5speed will i need source the center tunnel from a 5speed car so that the shifter fits properly? any help will be appreciated!!
the reason i am doing the swap is cuz i have a friend who owns a towing company and when cars aren't claimed he crushes them. so i buy the cool motors when ever i can find a use for them. and i have a automatic sedan that has a million miles that i paid 2bills for. and found the b18 with a automatic so i figured put the two together and have a badass sleeper to carry my baby in. my slammed minitruck gets cramped after a while. but i think i'm guna just do a 5speed swap, my buddy n i did a b18 swap in his rex and the motor has been giving him issues so i'm guna snag that tranny. and we'll jus boost a d for his car. i work at a wreaking yard so i have all kinds of connections.

Automatic transmissions are generally larger and heavier than the corresponding manual transmissions. Compare an LS manual transmssion with an automatic transmission. And you will notice the difference in bulk right away. The manual transmission is rather conical in shape, tapering rather quickly from the bellhousing to the tail. But the automatic is MUCH more cylindrical is shape. In other words, it tends to remain about the same diameter along its entire length.
As for the center tunnel, it is he same in either car. No modifications are needed here in order to make the manual transmission fit.
