Default Problem after motor swap - Crank seal leaks heavily!

Well, swapped my D15B with a ZC SOHC non-vtec motor. Took every precaution - installed new t-belt, water pump, seal behind the crank (crank seal, right?), all new belts etc...

Get the motor in, car starts, we are super excited. Burping the radiator and buddy yells to shut engine off. Look underneath car and GIANT pool of oil.

We look to see where the leak is from and confirm its from behind the crank pulley.

I ordered and installed a new Honda D15B seal - we compared sizes - it was the same.

The old seal pulled off by hand easily and the new one seemed to go on easily. I am not sure what we did wrong?

Also, is this seal the front main seal or called something else? Majestic calls this the oil pump seal in their parts listing...

Is there a specific installation procedure. I looked at the FSM and found nothing talking about this?

We now have to take all the crap off again (PS, AC, Alternator, T-belt) etc and try to fix the leak...

I would like to know so we don't have this happen to us again - Any advise?

Thanks!

They are usually a semi press fit type thing. Shouldnt be able to go on easily. I would replace the pump all together.

Replacing the pump is a lot more work. FSM makes it sound like there is a special tool for this - anyone know where I can get one? Thanks

I never used a special tool, and its like 5 mins out of the work your already doing to change your pump. But do as you wish. Good luck.

I just found out the SOHC ZC crank seal aka front main seal aka oil seal is supposedly larger (31*46*8 as compared to 31*46*7). I am not sure if this is what caused the issue, but I have a new one on order....
