Loud engine tick slippage in power driving at 80mph
so i was driving 80 mph on the highway with my 1999 prelude sh with 186,000 miles on it. I was at 5-6 thousand rpm in 4th gear when my motor felt like it slipped and lost power for a second so i stopped at a gas station and when i was slowing down a heard a loud ticking noise. Recently i looked at the timing belt and it had a good amount of wear on it and i bought the car with 136,000 miles on it and i dont think the timing belt was done ever.
so ive searched for what could be the problem is that a need a valve adjustment but i would think you would need an adjustment over time not all of sudden your car needs one. or my theroy is that my timing belt is old and it slipped if thats possible and threw my timing off, or that i know the auto tensioners on the h22s are known to be garbage so that could of not kept tension on the belt and it slipped. as far as my car goes it runs fine seems like all the powers there its just a loud ticking noise idling all the way through every gear and especially gets loud when going up hills or acceleration. Suggestions ? valve adjustment ? or replace timing belt... ?

im guessing its the timing but is it alright to drive if the timings off but the belt is solid in other words would the timing being a little off but drivable hurt my motor
If the current position of the timing bent some valves slightly, they may hit again when they get hot, drop a valve head or an entire valve, and grenade the engine.
Don't drive it until you figure out what happened. Pull the timing covers.

um holy ****?? dont put another mile on that car until you replace the belt/waterpump and stick an h23 manual tensioner on it, or at least replace the auto one
damn
I'm surprised it hasnt snapped, your super lucky

Yeah thats insane, the timing belt should be done at about 80 and 160, so you should have done it at 160 at the very least, get those covers off, check it out or even better just replace it all, if the belt looks like it slipped a tooth, then do compression/leakdown tests, and do a valve adjstment before firing it back up!
