Default Removed A/C belt! WOW!

I just removed the A/C belt (not completely out of the car) to see what difference it would make. It was definately noticeable. It has the same effect as removing P/S!!!! I turned the A/C pulley by hand and the resistance was almost the same as the the P/S pulley. I didn't expect it to be that heavy!!!

Switching off the AC has pretty much the same effect as removing the belt.

Yea... Its in your head man.. there is almost NO parisitic drag on the motor when the AC is off..

You WILL NOT feel a difference.

yeah, there is an electronic clutch on the ac pully. When the ac is off the pully is spinning on a bearing and not turning the compressor.

The only drag you will see is from the tension on the belt, which isnt much and the weight of the pully, which isnt much either.

I doubt that you would be able to feel any difference unless your ac pully was malfuntioning.

exactly what I was about to say.. i had an a/c pully problem, and had to cut the belt off.. it felt a lot stronger after i cut the belt off, but when I fixed the pully and put the new belt on, there was not a noticeable amount of drag that came back(with the a/c off of course)..

Depends if its the belt squeeking or the PS pump squeeking. Belt and or pully could be dirty, or the PS Pump could be losing a bearing...

Most likely your belt has too much tension.
