Default Manifold question / Boost Creep etc...

So I am getting back into the turbo game. Previously I used a Full-Race ramhorn manifold, 44mm tial gate with a sc61. The problem was that I always had boost creep issues and could never figure it out. Tried everything, even porting and polishing the wastegate hole but nothing worked. So now i'm wondering what manifold I should get b/c I really want to avoid the boost creep problems from the begining. I Was thinking Inline pro manifold or possibly going with the full-race again if they maybe changed something to fix the problem. Or is there really no good solution except using two wastegates? What do you guys think? Thanks in advance.

It's hard to say what the issue was without seeing pics or knowing more details. It sounds like your components were solid, so there must've been something to explain it.

Any manifold with a well placed wastegate outlet should've been able to stabilize that setup.

I was running about 12psi and it would creep up to about 16 or 17 psi.

can you give us a bit of information on the engine setup?

83mm 9:1 B-series

3" dp / test pipe / 3" exhaust

Sc61 / stage 5 wheel / .63a/r

This problem was just on spring with no boost controller. System was checked for leaks and any other problem. I'm really just thinking it was wastegate placement. I mean the wastegate was sitting at a 90 degree angle. Of course the flow is going to follow the path or least resistance, which is personally why i think i had the creep.

alot of people use full-race manifold... I did not think this was a common problem, is it?

if not then I would say there was some other contributing factor besides the full race manifold.

like i mentioned in my pm, i think the 1mm oversized valves, and extensive portwork play a rather large role in controlling boost, the power gained from the headwork makes up for it though.

ive also used manifolds proven to control boost on many setups but resulted in boost creep on mine. the latest manifold held 9psi on the previous owner, and now wont hold less than 16psi on mine. You can try a Tial 60 mm wastegate, or a dual wastegated manifold if you want to get boost down lower.

How do oversized valves and portwork create boost creep? I'm not following with the connection.

If your motor is really really good flowing, the motor will be very efficient and cant be controlled with just a single 44mm gate. Sounds like your car was begging for alot more.

i have this problem mine creeps from 6 to 7lbs from 5000 - 7000rpm and another 1psi by 8000 and i thought id avoid boost creep with my 44mm but looks like i couldnt

Tell me a little bit about your setup. Is your head ported and polished? Do you have oversized valves? What manifold are you running? what turbo? etc. Thanks

Was also thinking of maybe just doing either dual 38s or a single 60mm. What are your guys' thoughts on that?
