You can use Mobil 1 Synthetic, but your oil change periods are every 3,000 miles. Prolonging oil changes only shortens the lifespan of your engine's internals at a much more rapid pace.

Your mechanic is basically advising you to go against typical Honda maintenance, set in standard by Honda. Synthetic oil won't keep your oil any cleaner than standard oil, therefore it would be inaccurate to state that using synthetic oil will extend your fluid change schedule.

I run the same oil but I still get my standard 3000 miles oil change, I think it's always best to use Honda's guidlines regarding oil change and maintenance.

Well, let's see... Honda or other mechanic. lol just playin

But like everyone else said, change it every 3,000 miles. Follow the peoples' advice that built the car. lol

If I had the time and money I'd change my oil every 2000.

I started the 10,000 mi interval oil changes at roughly 65,000 miles. If I change now, and start putting in regular oil every 3,000 miles will my engine be ok? It seems to be ok, but I am afraid that my engine is in danger now.. How can I check that my engine is still in good condition?

Thanks for all of the help.

I change mine every 3k miles..... no way in hell that i would let my car run over the max 5k, and thats pushing it. not to point fingers or say ur mechanic is bad, but maybe he wants ur car to get messed up quicker so u can give him more business than just oil changes hmmmmmmmm....... I use royal purple synthetic oil and the car drives great!!! but listen to all these guys they know their stuff

What abuse my car? what like going 90 in 3rd gear? revving to red line just for fun? pah... itsa honda....

Ok all joking aside i know i should change my oil every 4000-5000 but last time after driving across from Virginia to here in Colorado i didn't change my oil for almost another year....

I think i drove about 7-9 thousand before i changed my oil before this last time. Now my cars going to siting in storage for a year so not much of an issue. Once i get back i am either driving back to Virginia and swapping my motor or buying an STI. So its not much of an issue to me.....

P.S. why does every one flip out when you drive with the e-brake on? i drove 3 miles going 30 the whole way one morning when i was to hung over to know it.

Why? Because when you drive with your parking brake on, you are wearing out your rear brake shoes faster than normal.

Which can be a pain in the ***, considering the rear drum shoes are not visible like the disc brake pads up front.. which means your not gonna know how much (or how little) life you have left in the suckers.

So any recommendations? What's a good oil/filter combo that I should be using. I'm not going to put synthetic if it's not going to last 10,000 mi.

I use Mobil 1 Synthetic and a Honda filter (go to Parts department at dealership for the filters).
