Default Is the intake manifold brace needed?? b18a1

I gotta replace the engine harness on my b18a1 and the intake manifold has a big black bracket that bolts to the underside of it and runs down to the block. can I just take it off and leave it off??

the damn wiring harness runs behind it but I dont want to have to pull the engine out of the car just to swap harnesses....

but do I need the bracket?? can I just leave it off?? I just dont see the intake manifold being THAT heavy that it needs that bracket to support it.

it would probably be ok, but honda found some reason to put it there so i'd just bolt it back up

No, you do not need this bracket. I myself and my friends have all run without it including my friend in his old EK hatch with a beast of a built 230whp GSR with type-R LSD tranny and he has always run his cars without it no problem.

While it is more than likely not needed, keep in mind that Honda did not earn their reliability status by building engines that regularly fail. Yeah, the IM is definitely not heavy, but keep in mind how many thins are attached to it. Now keep in mind that the entire powertrain can move quite a bit compared to the body of the car, which has loads of hoses, wires, etc. connected between the two. It is easy to see how this could fatigue bolts, especially at certain temperature ranges.

I've never put those pain in the *** brackets back on. Way more of a headache than they are worth. All of the cars are on the road with no problems.

i don't think a 5lb piece of aluminum manifold is gonna hurt anything without a brace. i'd be more concerned with an 8lb cast iron turbo manifold, and a 12lb turbo hanging off it, with a wastegate hanging off.... a little more weight than the intake manifold i do believe.
