One way is to look for a green vin plate on the motor. I think obd1 motors did not have knock sensor, so you should look for that also it should be a round sensor under the intake manifold, Not the oil pressure switch either.

X2, anything made by honda after 1995 is OBD-2. Anything made in 1995 or lower is OBD-1.
Correct me if I'm wrong haha.

lol noone has answered this guys Q...
for one thing 0BD1 bseries have a knock sensor as well. really one of the only differences to the eye right off is crank trigger on the harmonic balancer pulley.

and it does teh guy no good to list what year cars go with which engines he has no idea what year it is..

but as far as I know B16A2 came in the 99-00 Civic Si as stated above.

On the head there is aseries of ltitle circle thing casted onto it that has numbers. The first circle with the numbers tells you the manufacturing year of the motor. Which will also tell you what OBD the motor is according to the posted years above.

round sensor under the intake manifold (bottom left side) as if you were behind the motor. the sensor is round and is about 1-2" away from the intrake manifold. Does this mean that it is an ODB1 motor? thanks

i would search around. read through the faq's and stuff. that info can be found in there.

you will be annihilated here if you dont at least give a shot at finding the info yourself. you shouldnt have a problem finding that stuff.

ill even point you in the right direction...

1HG means your honda was built in the U.S. If you know what OBD came in the different years the 10th letter/number in your honda VIN # will tell you the year of the engine...A=1980, B=1981, Y=2000 etc. Except letters: I, O, Q, U & Z are not used. In 2001 it changed over to 1=2001, 2=2002 etc.
