stupid things always happen to me.
Got a huge problem, yesterday i was washing my car, just about done when i decided to start the car for a little cruise. I Poped the hood to give the engine bay a quick wipe down as the car warmed up. Started to hit up different spots when i came across the left strut bar with the rag, all of a sudden the rag wrapped around the cam gears and the car completely shuts off. At this point am freaking out because i know it not good. So i take my valve cover off to unwrap the rag thats caught in the cam gears and try to crank it up but nothing, all it dose is start but it sputters off. Hopefully my timing belt just jumped some teeth and not bent valves. If anybody can possibly help me out on what happened that would be great.
That's why you shouldn't work on your car while it on, unless your diagnosing something. I had a buddy who tried tightening a timing belt cover bolt while his car was on and damn near had his arm ripped off when his shirt got caught on the power steering belt.

hahahah seriously WOW
might as well just have peed in your oil filler
alright guys , i know it sounds irresponsible and newbish but it was just a quick run buy with the rag, i wasent getting into cracks and creases and leaning over the motor. By the looks of it, my cam gears aren't lined up so am hoping its just the timing but i can't find out till Monday to bring it to a shop

this reminds me of that post a while back where the guy had pictures after his fingers got caught in the cam gears. Ill try to look for it. In case i do get it up. its disturbing and not safe for work.

Here is the post (severed finger pictured):

That is certainly a serious injury.
OP, since the gears are not aligned, you most likely skipped some teeth. I would not run the car, i.e. tow it to the shop.

Why not? Just keep safety in mind. If the engine is running, stay clear.

Yes you would, unless your actually trying to diagnose something or set the timing, etc, but never leave it one when you rubbing the motor or engine bay down, especially near belts and hot parts.
