VTEC Question
Is it possible to lower, rpm wise, when the VTEC kicks in? Mine kicks in around 6k. Is it possible to lower it to 5k to get more power sooner? Would this be an electronic change or mecanical? Or would it be impossible? Thanks for your input.

apexi does not work for our cars so dont listen to this guy.
we have no v-tec controller
piggy backs dont work for us
only way to answer your question is what 24boosted said
get the reflash

Lowering Vtec won't do anything unless it's tuned. If your just going to lower it without a proper reflash it's not going to go well with the ecu.

Even if you could it wouldn't matter, because Hondata has already said having a lower vtec engagement without some simple bolt-ons will LOSE power. I guess there's a reason Honda didn't put it at 5k.
Personally.. I think the SI would be near-perfect if they had reworked the intake or exhaust a bit and lowered it down to 4k. I feel that's the SI's biggest problem in terms of performance - it just feels so weak below 6k, and then 6k-8k is over in a blink. Plus I try not to shift right at redline and most always fall out of vtec on the next shift.

Which would be a waste of money because it doesn't work on the 06+ Si.

Yes but you're forgetting one very important thing. Yes the car is weak below 6K, but it's for a reason. It was designed to utilize a unique combination of fuel economy and high power output at the upper RPMs. Which is where VTEC comes in.
And while the car is weak below 6K rpms, when you're in an all out race....unless you shift early....you'll always be in that 6K or above RPM range if you shift right at red-line. So the car will continuously pick up speed. The only real place the Si is lacking in terms of acceleration is off the line.

dude, the op's name is SCCA-Racerx right? launching well probably doesn't improve his times much since he isn't going in a straight line.

nope.
Hondata is really your only option to achieve your goal correctly. Like someone mentioned before, you will need a minimum of Intake OR Header/exhaust to see gains from the reflash, but you don't need all 3, i/h/e, to run the reflash.
like 24 boosted mentioned, do a little searching. you'll see how well the reflash works for these cars.

Thanks to all that replied. I will not be going in a straigt line. Drag racing is for fast cars - auto crossing is for fast drivers. To stay in GS I can not change my intake or my header, so lowering the vtec won't do me any good. All I can change is the air filter and anything from the cat back.
Thanks for the info.

Hondata Reflash is your best bet...it gives you a Vtec window from 4500-thru 5800 and gain midrange power, and it also increases your rev limiter up to 8600...with a combination of an race header and an CAI...i can almost assure you that you would gain quite a bit of power...go to http://www.hondata.com
