Default vtec controller off = no vtec

heres the scoop, its a b-series and when it doesn't run top notch and i was thinking it could have been the settings on the controller, so i unplugged it and no vtec, i made certain the car was warmed up too...why would vtec not engage if its a vtec motor? and also the check engine light was on...any help would be appreciated.

Di da di..... that's kinda like asking why the headlights don't turn on when you take the bulbs out......

If the vtec controller is "controlling the vtec" then when it's off that would tell me vtec won't be controlled.

Vtec is actuated by and electic over hydraulic solenoid....to find out more do more research.

well i was under the impression that being that the vtec controller was not originally in the car and vtec still hit, how come it wouldn't go back to a default mode where vtec would kick in as it did before the vtec control was even installed
